Canadian brides getting married in Mexico-Legal wedding info

I also asked my WC about this same thing and she says my resort doesn't require all that information.. a couple other brides that are going or have gone and gotten married at my same resort said they didn't have to bring all that info and they are legally married.. I think it honestly depends on the resort... but I would maybe double check with your WC and talk to someone else about it at the Consulate.

I believe SunBride (who is from Ottawa), had a civil ceremony at Dreams Tulum last spring and said in one of these threads that she didn't need to do any translating or authenticating of documents. Maybe she'll see your question and pop by to let you know.

I just got married (civil ceremony) at the Iberostar Paraiso Beach in February and all they needed to see were our long-form with certificates (very easy to obtain) NOT translate and we were not required to have the consulate/embassy authenticate our documents. Everything went off without a hitch. Try not to stress too much about this. The consulate told me the exact same thing about how we "must" have this, but they were incorrect. Just get a written confirmation from your wc and you should be ok. I've stressed (needlessly lol) in the past about this too, so I know how you feel. Good luck, hope this helps!

I'm in Edmonton, getting married at the Riu Jalisco in Puerto Vallarta.

I had to send in advance copies of our passports, and those of our witnesses, notarized copies of our birth certificates, and an application form.

Ok thanks - i've asked the WC twice and she insists we don't need it. I ordered our long form BC's and had them legalized..but if i don't have to have them translated and then notorized..then i'd like to skip that process. My biggest fear is getting there and then they ask for them!

We just got married at the Bahia Principe Tulum and needed nothing except our passports and tourist visas (the lower half of the form you fill out upon arrival, that you need to keep in your passport until you leave Mexico). No birth certificates. I know, I was really confused after reading this thread, but I just went with what my WC told me I needed. There were no surprises once there! (We did have to get blood tests done at the resort while we were there, but that was an easy process as well!)

I say, go with what your WC says. These resorts are like wedding factories and all the WC does every day is deal with this stuff. They really are the experts!!

 

Now that we're back, though, I'm a little confused about what I have to do to "assume" my husband's name. If anyone has done this in BC, could you let me know exactly what we need to do? I've called Vital Statistics, and if you don't get married in BC, then they don't register your marriage. So far I've found an official translator, and I'm thinking I just need to go to the bank, ICBC, etc. to change my name. It all seems so unofficial though...

My friend got married in Mexico 5 years ago and she just told me that if I'm changing my last name - to do it with in the first 30 days of getting married - otherwise the process is a lot harder and longer. I don't understand but she didn't do hers right away and now is having a lot of trouble changing it over - and she said if she had done it immediately - the process was simpler. She is Ontario though - so i'm not sure if it is different for BC.

I am getting married at Gran Bahia Principe Coba, and we were told to just bring our passports and tourist cards. We have both never been married before, I know it changes things if you have. We also need to get the blood test done.

 

We were also told we could then have them legalize the document there (for a charge), and that they would then Fedex it back to us in Canada. This is the part I am confused about. Does anyone know if this step is necessary?

My resort actually told me the same thing.. its having the marriage certificate translated to English from Spanish.. its supposed to make the process of registering your marriage back here way more simple. Or you can bring your certificate home with you and have to have it translated either way. As long as you find someone who will translate it for you. I think I will just have mine done at the resort and get it sent to me however.. easier I think..

We were also offered that service before we got there. When we were there, though, neither of us brought it up and no resort people did either. I'm not sure how much they charge, but I've been looking into it here, in Vancouver, and it seems to be between 80 to 100 for an "official" translation.
