Excellence Playa Mujeres Brides Post Here!

I have no idea how I'm taking my dress. We originally booked United flight, but they cancelled the flight a month after we booked. It was a nigthmare. So now we are flying with AirTran and my understanding is they do not have a hanging closet. confused.gif

So I'm either going to try to lay it on top overhead, or try to roll it in my carry on.

Does anyone know about AirTran? How can they not have a hanging closet?

Jass,

I was just married on May 5th and flew American. Some of the larger airlines unfortunately still do not have hanging closets, or use their closets for storage. I just spoke to the attendants at the gate as soon as we got there and let them know that I had a wedding gown. They were all so nice and went out of their way to help. On one of the flights they actually asked the captain to hang it in the cockpit and the other flight hung it in the back of 1st class. Even the TSA agents were really nice and gave me the tip of laying down the dress at the back of my bin, hooking on the dress to the bin so that it would drag through the Xray and not get crushed. Also, the Excellence will press your gown and your fiancés suit/tux as part of the wedding packages and then have it delivered back to the room early the day of the wedding.

Thanks so much for your advice and tips! I really appreciate it. I didn't even think about how it would go through the Xray machine. So you layed it on top of the bins and hooked it to the bins?

I will talk to the  check in person, and flight attendants, and see if they can hang it any way, or if they have ideas. Our flight is only 3.5 hours direct flight, so if it gets wrinkled in that time, I'm glad to hear Excellence will press it. My next question was going to be how good is their press/steaming, can I trust them. Glad to hear they do a good job! :)

So helpful Rebecca!  I am a little scared to let my dress out of my site even to the hotel staff to press it but I assume everything was just fine!  Did you or any of the other brides ship any of the items they used for the reception to the hotel beforehand?  I just got an email back from my WC Lleny and she said she recommended it but I'm a little hesitant in case it doesn't make it in time or it gets lost.

my dress did not leave my site, except for checking in. they take all your stuff until your room is ready.  my dress was not wrinkled at all and i just hung it up in the closet, which by the way is HUGE!

it also depends on the fabric of your dress whether it will wrinkle more or less.   mine laid flat and my fiance and i carried it, it was really heavy dress so i took the bottom and he took the top.  i didnt care if ppl had to move the dress was going to be straight. and everyone at the airlines is super nice

2 randon questions ladies....

  • Does anyone know why they do blood tests for legal ceremonies - i presume so they know that we are not 'of relation' :)

  • Also, has anyone shipped anything directly to the hotel? I have a lot of extras I bringing so wasn't sure if to take it in a suitcase or bubble wrap it to death and ship it.

Thank you all!

We flew Air Tran for the first time for our wedding...a little bit of a risk but the price was great and had to do it.

So here's the deal. I called them a few weeks before the wedding and found out that they do not have a closet. What they suggest is putting it in a garment bag type of suitcase. We have a rolling garment bag and luckily my dress-on it's bust form that the tailor put together, fit in there along with my husbands clothes for the wedding and our rehearsal clothes...including my veil and shoes! It wasn't even wrinkled when we unpacked everything! My dress is a silk stretch jacquard and with not one ounce of poof so if you have a fuller dress, it may only fit the dress and shoes. (It's the London fog rolling garment bag if you want to check it out) You can carry it on the plane and will be safely over your head!

Excellence picks up your dress and his clothes on Thursday and returns it back to you by Friday afternoon. (for a Saturday wedding) Everything was pressed/steamed PERFECTLY! No worries. Even if your dress wrinkles on the way down there, it won't be by the time you walk down the aisle.

Another cool thing that air Tran has is the option to upgrade to business/first class. If you call 24 hours before your flight you can upgrade as long as there is room. So, for $99 a person, you can check 2 bags per person for free, and be the first on the plane with no worries about not having your dress and carry ons with you. Being that we had 9 bags, we only had to pay for 1 bag checked, and an overweight bag fee for another. They are pretty strict about the 50 pound limit rule. We flew this way there and back and it was a great experience with them..we were pleasantly surprised! We have all our miles and former status with United and US Air and were checking daily for flights but couldn't do it. If you do happen to have status with Star Alliance, chances are you'll get a free upgrade-somehow we always did going down to Cancun-not a lot of business travelers! :) If not, you might want to think about going first class-3 free bags each and up to 65 pounds with them! It's awesome! No worries about shipping things then.

Wow thank you for all your tips! I need to look into this London Fog garment bag. Where did you get it from? Right now I have my dress in DB bag, it's pretty big. My dress is not poofy at all, but it does have a train that hooks up to the top hanger right now. It's little wrinkled when I got it, but plan to have it steamed before our trip. And then let the resort steam it if necessary. I didn't think about putting my dress with his suit and veil. But what a good idea.

And I like the idea of calling ahead 24 hours, and getting the business class since that sounds like it would be better for us at least going down with our bags and garments. And I don't think I'm gonna ship anything down. But heavier stuff I plan to have in my carry on. Right now I'm still thinking we can get by with 2 bags and carry ons, but I'll probably change my mind once I realize how much stuff I'm bringing. We are staying down for 2 weeks.

Has anyone used their laundry service? Is it expensive?

Has anyone used the in house DJ Mannia?  We were quoted $900 for 3 hours but I don't know what that includes.  Do you pay extra for lights and the dance floor or is all that good stuff included?  I wish the WC's would give more explanation in their answers so I wouldn't have to send another follow up email!
