I GOT THROUGH TO SOMEONE!!!

OK... I just spoke with Nayeli Ugarte who is the new Ileana aka weddings manager. Apparently she is the one who has been emailing back when we thought we were emailing Gustavo and Ileana. So the scoop is this... Gustavo left because his fiance is pregnant and he needed more time to be with her. I can only imagine how many hours they work with this job! Ileana left because she moved to Canada!! Both of them left on good terms and had all of our information detailed for her. Nayeli has been with Excellence for 4 years and doing this for 7 and "loves her job"! She assured me that she's got everything under control and wanted me to let everyone on the blog know that she understands why we're upset and nervous and will be as responsive as possible to ease our stress!(I told her I heard about everyone leaving through this blog)  Honestly, I feel a lot better after speaking with her and she was on point with all of the details I had been emailing about! Whew! I just wish she or someone would have filled us all in...

As for shopping downtown, we'll be staying in Cancun (hotel zone) the first 3 nights we're there and then heading to EPM for the week. Our plan is to shop before we get to EPM. Last time we did this it was about 250-ish pesos to get downtown from the hotel zone. Mercado 28 is closer to EPM so it shouldn't be too expensive if you want to leave the resort. What's nice also, is that many of the cab drivers want to wait for you and you can negotiate a price with them for the round trip....definitely won't be $100.

Thank you so much for the info!

I checked with my TA and she also has that No-Walking guarantee, she works directly with the resort for weddings and honeymoons and has for the last 4 years. It was literally a mess up on the resorts end, I would never get into a situation that could potentially move us into another resort, especially not for my wedding! Those kinds of chances are not chances I am willing to take.  I am also insanely thorough with things like this, but it is good to know that these types of “Walking†things exists so I know to make sure I never sign up for one in the future!

Thanks again for the info! Im trying to be patient with the WC, its just a little difficult given that they could not even email me back to tell me that they are transitioning and they need more time to email me back. Especially with only 5 and a half weeks left!

Lot's of booking engines have small print that says if the resort fills up they can put you in a different resort (Expedia has this when you reserve with them). Some Travel Agents book through different engines that do not guarantee a "no-walking" situation, at which time your reservations could be bumped to a different resort if the resort books up. If you do not have this guarantee, it's almost like the resort has no real reason to take your reservation seriously as they become 100% booked because they know in the fine print they can technically move you to a different resort. I have no idea of that's what happened to lciz, but that was my TA's best guess of the situation. I check with our agent and she uses FunJet which has a No-Walking guarantee. Meaning everyone WILL get their room at the resort. A key thing to do is NEVER agree to anything at the resort as far as moving to a new hotel. If you do that it cancels the No-Walk Guarantee. Never sign an agreement or take credit or anything regarding moving to a new resort because your TA can not help you at that point.

My wedding planner is giving the new planner a chance to catch up with things. She said that every wedding she does has wedding coordinators switch 1-4, 5-6 times while planning a wedding. Everything always turns out wonderful and the details are usually handled 30 days out. Even though they will communicate with you before that time 30 days out is when you get all the attention.

I feel better.  I hope you ladies do as well.

I just found this review on Trip Advisor from just last week:

"We celebrated our daughter's wedding at this resort. The resort was wonderful - accommodations, service, selection of restaurants and facilities were all fabulous and I would recommend it for anyone wanting a luxurious Mexican get-away.

Our daughter's wedding was beautiful and the resort did an outstanding job. Our family was a little concerned about the pre-planning details, especially since all the arrangements were completed online and via phone. Not seeing the sight or getting the opportunity to meet with the wedding coordinator was a little stressful, but once we arrived everything went smoothly.

We can't wait to go back again!"

I saw the review on trip advisor too! I also heard back from the new wedding Manager. I emailed her back and also had my travel agent confirm all of our rooms just to be on the safe side! I am sure it will take some time before she has us all sorted out but I think that as brides we are all pretty organized which will help her, help us! I actually work as an event planner as my day job so sometimes I find it hard to plan a wedding from far away. Being crazy detail oriented can actually work against you a bit in this situation!  I know that all of our weddings will be great and I am so grateful that we have this board to help us vent, share information and ideas. I appreciate everyone updating us with the information they found out. It really can ease your mind to have people in the same situation trying to help each other out! cheesy.gif

So good that we all seem to be back on track! :)

Question for you all...Does anyone know when the deposit and final payment is due for everything "wedding" related?? I've asked this a few times but never got a firm response.

Thanks Ladies!

I think they told me 72 hours before the ceremony. Will have to read through my emails to double check.
