I toured and ate at a few places in Feb. We narrowed it down to La Palapa and Barcelone Tapas based on a few things:

Price - approx $30-35 USD per person for a sit down meal

View - La Palapa seating is in the sand on the beach and Bacelona Tapas is an amazing view from the rooftop

Atmosphere - both were clean, americanized and classy.

We ended up going with Barcelona Tapas and will be hosting our welcome dinner there in Nov. Please let me know if you have additional questions.

can I ask what they are charging you Nikki?

I think we are having ours at Banana Cantina - they have been awesome and we would take over the whole restaurant for about $22 a person including drinks, taxes, tips, etc.

Thats a great price - sounds perfect! :) Ours is $200 pesos for dinner (appetizer (chips, guac, salsa, black bean dip), choice of soup, mahi mahi or fajitas, and then an after dinner coffee drink. Drinks are extra - we are limiting it to margaritas and beer so that things dont get crazy expensive. They are giving us 10% off all drinks though. A margarita is $500 pesos and a beer is like $2.50. There is 15% addded for service onto this but tax is included. I am happy with the pricing - just hoping the drinks dont get out of control (we have some drinkers!). They are also giving us special pricing for childrens meals as we have three kids going. I have yet to eat there though - going to PV next week for a long weekend so am going to check it out then. Hopefully we like it since we are already committed! ha! They have been great to work with - super responsive and good at answering my questions so that helped make the decision to go with them too since I am organizing the welcome dinner myself (vs with a wedding coordinator).

Totally by email :) They were quick to respond and good at responding in English so that made it easier :) I emailed so many restaurants to either never have them respond or respond weeks later, which I know is normal but it drives me nuts so really wanted to work with a place that I could reach easily. The main guy I worked was named Victor - I am going to try to meet him next week when I go visit. I think the restaurant is next to La Palapa on the beach. One other place that we almost used was called Chez Elena - there was some issue with their email server so it took about a week to hear back from them each time I emailed and ultimately thats what made me decide on El Dorado but their prices were similar and it had a neat rooftop bar for drinks prior to dinner. Let me know if there is anything I can check out for you while I am there in person next week - would be glad to help!

I'm still looking into pricing and deciding on whether I'm going to have a welcome dinner vs rehearsal dinner but my favourite restaurant in vallarta which I haven't seen on this thread is Le Bistro ..it's on the river cuale and has great jazz and food. It is outdoors along the river and the setting is beautiful. I don't know the pricing for groups but I highly recommend it.
