What is your favorite Christmas/holiday tradition??

We have two traditions and I don't think we will be doing them this year.

1. On Christmas eve, my girls and I dress in our Christmas jammies and have hot chocolate and watch a christmas movie. Since the kids are grown and gone, it will be just me and the dog! DH doesn't wear Christmas jammies!

2. My mom used to buy advent calendars for all of the grandchildren, but she passed right after Christmas last year and it will be to hard to carry that on this year.

OMG Sloan, you just took me back about 12 years. 12 years ago was the last time me and my sisters did this. I used to host brunch every Christmas morning and they would come over and we would have mimosas, and a wonderful spread of breakfast items. Wow how I miss that.

Anyhow - our tradition is every year we buy an ornament that reflects the year. Last year we bought a seahorse ornament to remember our first family trip to PV. This year it will definitely be something wedding related. Maybe I'll find a big script E to put on the tree. Hmmm...something to think about!

Oh and we always spend Christmas Eve with our friends and when we get home we let the kids open one gift.

With my family there was never really much of a tradition, just a great big feast of food that rotated from year to year (one year at my mom's place, one year at my aunt's place, and round and round it went).

Since I've been with my husband, it's been fun being part of his family's traditions. They're all just like a bunch of kids during the holidays, and I love every minute of it. There are the required "butt shots" of each of the kids hanging an ornament on the tree...the boys get competitive and try to get the most crack showing...I know, juvenile, but so funny to watch. On Christmas Eve we all get together to hang our stockings and eat sandwiches around the lit Christmas tree. And on Christmas morning (or sometime during Christmas day), we all have to gather on the staircase and do the "OHMIGOD SANTA CAME" face so that my mother-in-law can get a picture.

It's all really silly stuff, but really fun since I never got to do any of it growing up.

Well my family always opens all of our presents on Christmas Eve & just open the stuff in the stockings the next day (the Christmas lunch starts at 1pm-ish, so nobody needs to rush). We've always done it this way, so it wouldn't feel the same opening things in the morning.

The tradition that I love most though started last year when my husband was in & out of the hospital with his cardiac issues last Fall. He wasn't able to work for about a month & a half & $$ was tight, so we went to a mall with $25 each & had 2 hours to shop for each other. And we couldn't go one cent over the $25. It was so much fun, because I kept stalking him in the bookstore waiting for him to leave, so I could shop there. The best part was when we told the stories of where we went & why we purchased what we did. It was so much fun that we're doing it again this year (& hopefully for years to come!)

Wow I loved reading everyone's traditions! Great way to get in the Christmas spirit! We always have Christmas dinner on Christmas eve, then at midnight we open presents. Sleep in a little on Christmas day, eat some left overs then relax on the couch in our jammies watching one of our favorite Christmas movies...Home ALone 1 & 2, Santa Clause & Elf oh and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
