I am in need of some suggestions on how to word our invitations. I came across the wording below and really liked it but am unsure of the proper etiquette.

Both sets of parents have offered to help with the wedding so I am assuming both should be listed on the invite. The only dilema is that Aaron's parents are divorced. His dad (at this time) has not been invited (longgg story) and will not be listed. His mom has remarried this past year. Due to the fact that they live on the other side of the country, we do not know Larry, her husband, much at all. Aaron doesn't really refer to him as a "step-dad" either.

Here's what I have:

LOVE WAS MEANT TO BE SHARED

WITH PARENTS, FAMILY, AND FRIENDS.

Amy Lynn ____

AND

Aaron Vashon _____

HAVE FOUND LOVE IN EACH OTHER.

BECAUSE YOU HAVE SHARED IN THEIR LIVES

BY YOUR FRIENDSHIP AND LOVE

WE INVITE YOU TO CELEBRATE WITH US

THE MARRIAGE OF OUR CHILDREN

ON MAY 31, 2008

AT 5:00PM

SECRETS CAPRI RIVIERA CANCUN

RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO

MR. AND MRS. HENRY ____

MR. AND MRS. LAWRENCE ____

Is this the "proper" way to write this?

Thanks in advance!!

I have never heard this wording before...very nice. My only suggestion is that you may want to consider using your mothers' first names and opposed to Mr. and Mrs.

Henry and "Jane" __________

Lawrence and "Jane"____________

This way his mother is specifically mentioned as opposed to just his step-dad. I also personally think that the Mr. and Mrs. thing is kind of old-fashion...why should the woman's name be droppedhuh.gif? Anyway, that's how I did my wording...just a suggestion :)

Hey Amy, how's it going?

I like the wording of the invitation and here are my suggestions:

LOVE WAS MEANT TO BE SHARED

WITH PARENTS, FAMILY, AND FRIENDS.

Amy Lynn ____

AND

Aaron Vashon _____

HAVE FOUND LOVE IN EACH OTHER.

BECAUSE YOU HAVE SHARED IN Our (Or Their) LIVES

BY YOUR FRIENDSHIP AND LOVE

WE(Or They), along with our (Their) parents,

Henry and "Jane" ____

and

"Ann" and Lawrence _____,

INVITE YOU TO CELEBRATE WITH US (Join us in celebration)

As we (They) join in marriage (or exchange vows of marriage, etc)

The way you had it worded was switching back and forth- from you and Aaron sounding like you were issuing the invitation, and then the "marriage of our children" part at the end sounded like the parents were issuing the invitation.

Also, you need to decide if you want your wording to sound like it's coming from the third person or not. Some of your wording is and some of it isn't...

If "Ann" is Aaron's mom and Lawrence is the stepdad, I would list "Ann" first. Just my personal opinion- this isn't necessarily proper etiquette.

I hope that makes sense...If you want me to retype it with third person wording or direct individual wording I can.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!! I thought the same thing as I was typing it Sarah, as far as the 3rd person. I do like listing the mother's names, as well as listsing Robin, Aaron's mom before Larry.

What do you think about this:

LOVE WAS MEANT TO BE SHARED

WITH PARENTS, FAMILY, AND FRIENDS.

Amy Lynn C

AND

Aaron Vashon L

HAVE FOUND LOVE IN EACH OTHER.

BECAUSE YOU HAVE SHARED IN OUR LIVES

BY YOUR FRIENDSHIP AND LOVE

WE, ALONG WITH OUR PARENTS,

HENRY AND CARRIE C

AND

ROBIN AND LAWRENCE G,

INVITE YOU TO JOIN IN CELEBRATION

AS WE JOIN IN MARRIAGE

Thanks again everyone!!!
