Beware Gift Cards for Christmas!

Recommended Posts

I received this email today from my aunt. I figured I'd pass it on!

FYI

If you have them; use them before Christmas.

And And don't buy them for presents.

I wanted to give everyone a heads up that if you tend to give gift cards

around the holidays, you need to be careful that the cards will be

honored after the holidays. Stores that are planning to close after

Christmas are still selling the cards through the holidays even though

the cards will be worthless January 1. There is no law preventing them

from doing this. On the contrary, it is referred to as 'Bankrupcy

Planning). Below is a partial list of stores that you need to be

cautious about.

I never give giftcards anyway. I'm always worried I'll lose it. I don't carry around much cash either. the other day I lost a $200 REI giftcard & i was so upset. luckily i found it in a notebook. it must have fallen out of my wallet. I also don't mail them because if it gets lost in the mail, it's gone. i prefer to send a check. that way if it's lost atleast they money is still in my account.
