heck no!!! this is your wedding. the people that will actually go to your wedding are the ones that count! you also get a chance to go on a fabulous vacation with your loved ones. how often will u have a large group vacation with your family?

8 months is doable! we began planning our destination wedding in 7 months! u will have a LOT of work to do but it will be so fun and worth it!!!

Regardless of how much or little time you give people, they will complain. We gave people 2 years and they are still complaining. If a destination wedding is what you want, then do it. Make your day about you and your FI. If they want to be there they'll be there if they can.

Having a destination wedding you have to expect that people can't afford to go - that's just par for the course. The wedding is for You and your FI, the others are guests. You are not getting married to make others happy (it's nice to be able to) but even traditional weddings you have to please others....Do this because it's what you both want to do :) Be happy with your decision!!! It's true those that can come will come!!

Our guests only received 4 months notice on our destination wedding.

Good luck and welcome to the BDW forum

Hello!!

Do not feel bad at all!! First, it is your wedding and you should do exactly what you want to do. Secondly even if it is $2000 a person they only need to save 250 a month to be able to go, if they can't do that then it is not your problem. Yes, having a bunch of people there would be great, but the ones that come will be the people that are in your life forever and they care the most about you and your fiance. Once everyone is out there they will realize that it was fun to take a big family vacation, and most people need the vacation! Do not feel bad when you are planning a wedding it is supposed to be fun, just brush it off and do what you want. They have pleanty of time!

I hope things turn around for you!

That is plenty of time. People are always going to complain. I am telling people that if they are coming "Let's go, if not I"ll see you when we get back". I have enough stress planning that I don't need to hear other people complaining. At the end of the day it is all about you and your FI. No one else matters. If they really want to be there they will make the effort.

Definately do what you want to do, don't let friends/family make you feel bad or try and tell you what to do, it's your day! Break it down for them, $100 a month, that's only $25 a week, ANYONE can do that! Have so much fun planning!!! :)

Hey there,

First off 800 dollars is an excellent price for a vacation and a chance to experience a destination wedding. I just returned from mine in Mexico. My wedding was planned in about 8 months. I had people suggesting the price was too much and they weren't sure they would come. I thought that there wasn't going to be anyone coming so of course I second guessed my decision.

We ended up having 14 guests total and I realize that was plenty. We had time to hang out with each and every one of them and do group activities. We also got to spend some time with them after the wedding before hubby and I did our "own" thing. And they all had such a good time. I honestly couldn't imagine having more guests than that, I would have been overwhelmed trying to make time for everyone. I don't regret a thing about having a destination wedding, it was absolutely the best and I planned it in less than a year!!!
