When do to welcome dinner... opinions...

Recommended Posts

We arrive in Jamaica on a Saturday night (late, around 11pm by the time we get to the resort).

We get married Tuesday at noon.

So that leaves us with having Sunday and Monday free.

When should we do our welcome dinner?

Sunday - as a welcome to Jamaica/resort

Monday - as a rehearsal dinner the night before wedding.

I'm thinking Sunday to give people time to get their heads about them before Tuesday. And I'll try to get a hair trial that day (are they open on Sunday's?) and have nice hair for that night.

But if we do Monday, then it'll seem more wedding-ish (maybe?) and it'll probably take my mind off of worrying about the next day.

FH and I haven't decided if we are going to spend the night before together or apart yet if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance!

I would do Sunday as the welcome dinner and Monday as the rehearsal...I always like having more excuses to celebrate!

Also, I would spend the night before apart...for me, I sleep better without my FI (he tosses and turns a lot) and I want to get a good night's sleep before the big day! If your resort offers this options, I would take it...I don't think mine does...I'm hoping my FI will stay with a friend the night before...he doesn't know this yet :)

Hey there to a fellow Nova Scotian (I work in Halifax).

If you did your dinner on Sunday, everyone could meet each other and know who's who (unless, of course, they already all know one another).

That would give you one less thing to worry about once it is over with. Then take Monday for yourself.

Cheers !

Hi there fellow Nova Scotians... and a fellow caper too!! I'm in the same boat as you. We also arrive late Saturday evening and I think what I plan to do is ask everyone to meet us for breakfast the next morning (Sunday) which is where I'll give out the OOT bags and let them know which excursions we're going on in case they want to join us, and maybe show them exactly where the wedding ceremony is. I thought it would be nice too if I made sure everyone understood that they don't all have to stick with us, just to enjoy their trip and do what they feel like doing. I don't know what their expectations are so I feel like if I just put it out there everything will work out.

I havn't really thought about a rehersal dinner...I don't think I'm having one...is that awful?

Hey Nova Scotians....... there are quite a few of us. I also work and live in Halifax.

We also arrive on a Saturday and get married on Tuesday. I love the idea of meeting for breakfast on Sunday. I never thought of that. I think I'll do that too and then have the rehearsal dinner on Monday night.

Happy Wedding planning. 3 months and 11 days until my wedding!

I would do Sunday as a Welcome Dinner. Everyone can meet each other. Plus Monday night your head will be spinning with everything you have to do the next day. I just got back from my wedding and we did a welcome dinner two nights before the wedding. Everyone got along really wells so we all stayed out for a few hrs later, the welcome dinner was about 3 hrs long itself. The night before the wedding we had dinner with some friends that had just arrived that day but as soon as dinner was over, fi and i wanted some alone time. We really didnt even want to go to dinner with the group of friends, but we kind of felt obligated since they just arrived. So if i were you i wouldnt plan anything the night before the wedding. Maybe if you feel up to it that day just meet some close friends or family for a small dinner.

I would also choose to do the "welcome" meal on Sunday. We are arriving on the Sunday late at night so we have decided to have a breakfast. Unfortunately Chandlyn cannot reserve tables for breakfast but we just wrote on our travel brochure that everyone was to meet at 9:00am at St.Ann's, it's just another option!
