FI wants to move to USVI!

Jenny I have to agree with the other girls since it is only a year I say go for it if you can afford to come back. FI and I need to move out of NJ since it gets too cold here in the winter (he had a bad accident and has severe arthritis in his face) I am sad bc I will be away from my family but I also think it would be awesome to try a new area (we are thinking Costa Rica or Key West). I would talk to your family and see how they react. Good Luck!

That's what I have running through my head..

no I haven't mentioned it to my mom yet, but I think she'll be supportive. I hate being away from her more than 2 weeks but its only a 3 hour flight anyhow..

I am really close to my family too, and I'm sure you will miss them, but what an amazing opportunity.

FI and I are taking an RV trip to California this winter and going with the "seat of our pants" mentality...which is hard for me, but we have done it once before and it was the best 2 months of my life!

We have also talked about moving away and I have had the same fears, but I know I would regret not doing it...I want to have stories worth telling!

Hi Jenny,

I say go for it! You only live once so have as much fun as possible.

My hubby and I have been discussing moving to St. Thomas in 2010. I'm all for it but he is unsure. Here is a good website I found about moving to USVI:

USVI Moving Center - The Ultimate Resource for Relocating to and Living in the Virgin Islands

I say you should go for it. I lived in St Thomas for 6 months as a travel nurse. That's where I met my FI. We lived at sapphire beach condos. The view and beaches are amazing. We lived in HI for 6 mos too and I still love the USVI beaches more. I left my family in Louisiana and went by myself. I was scared to death but now I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. It was the best decision I made. The locals can be rude and everyone lives on "island time", but the benefits outweigh the negatives. You can go to the British virgin islands for super cheap and it's so secluded and beautiful!! We always talk about how awesome it was and we're so glad we did it!! Plus if 'island fever' gets to you to much you can be home in 3 hrs!!

seriously - when will you ever have the opportunity to do this again? and from a jerseyan perspective, i know that after being in mexico for 2 days, i was able to slow down...so don't worry about acclimating in that sense!
hehe all my bdw girls are invited when i get down there lol

i think it sounds fab..

would you be working for this year or taking time off? st. thomas probably has a little more opportunity in terms of a job, however both islands go dead off season. as for slow island living, imo, st john definitely has more of that feel than st. thomas.

when we were in belize we met a guy and ended up hanging out with him all week. he moved to belize with nothing but a suitcase and an apartment. he did odd jobs like hosting quizzo at the bar, etc. he only stayed for a year but said it was the best thing he ever did for himself. so good luck with your decision!

I wouldn't worry about being away from friends and family for a year. If it was permanent, that's another story (I am in that situation now and it really bothers me to know I'll always be away from my family).

the year will fly by and when you are back you will appreciate your friends and family that much more.
