We have done weddings at both locations: Gazebo and Beach and I guess it all depends at what time is your wedding and if you mind onlookers or not. The Gazebo is a bit more private but the beach is nice and can accommodate any size group. 

 

Know too that if you get married in the Gazebo, you can do your portrait session on the beach, so you don't miss out on having images of the gorgeous Caribbean waters :)

what are the rates that youve seen?

honestly, if you can combine flights with the hotel it seems to be wayyyy cheaper. i paid on expedia and will get flights seperately - paying 220 pounds a night. my friend and her bf got a 2 weeks hotel stay , transfer and flight package for 1400 pounds each from london - (and london to mexico flights are normally around 700 pounds), so their room rates are so so much lower than mine
 

a website that can be good but accepts foreign cards is despegar.com.mx, i cant remember if you can get it in english or not. or the hotel will offer group rates depending on numbers and dates. its really worth shopping around! i needed a booking so i could reserve my wedding as i was worried about losing the date, otherwise i would have waited for lower rates elsewhere to come out!

 

also vivaaerobus.com.mx can be in english, and it does hotel only bookings. someimtes they have good prices!

Hi everyone! I am getting married next summer in Mexico and although I have not picked the resort yet, Sandos Playacar is my top choice. I am just waiting for my TA to finalize prices before I actually commit. I was wondering if anyone had any info/ tips on a few things especially those brides just married there in 2012. I am looking for info on the hotel photographers. Specifically the quality, price, and some samples. Has anyone used them and how were they? I've seen a few posts about a $300 charge if using an outside photographer. Is this the actual price and is it an extra $300 if they bring an assistant too? I've seen really beautiful pictures from outside photographers and am considering depending in reviews from the sandos hotel photographers and the price. Lastly, I would really like to have a private dance party possibly on the beach or pool area fafter dinner (probably will go with the Italian restaurant). Has anyone done this, have any pictures, or any more info on cost to do this and renting a DJ? Thanks in advance for all comments, tips, and info!!!

My husband and I were married at sandos on June 29. It was the most amazing location. We had 100 guests and they all loved every minute of their time at sandos. We got married on the beach, had an informal cocktail hour at the bamboos bar, dinner at the Italian restaurant, and reception at the disco. We used the resort photographer before the wedding, during, and a session right after. We gathered photos from friends and family as well Everything was perfect except for a few minor things. I would not recommend dinner at the Italian buffet. It is hard to get reservations for dinner at sandos so by the night of the wedding many of or guests were sick of the buffet. Also, you will be walking up to the buffet in your gown with other resort guests. It was also very hot in there!! If I could do it again, I'd spend the extra money and choose another dinner location. The disco was the perfect spot for the reception. Everyone had a blast. We rented it from 9-12 and then it was open to the rest of the resort which was not a problem. There were maybe 10 people that came in but in addition to our 100 it didn't matter. Renting the disco comes with the dj, bartender, an cocktail waitress. We went to the disco a few nights before and ended up requesting the same bartender and waitress. Hope this info is helpful!

I got married on June 30, 2012!

I agree that the beach location was PERFECT.  We also did dinner at the Italian restaurant and it was SUPER hot.  If I had known that, I would've done something different.  However, if you do dinner at the Italian restaurant, you don't have to pay for your guests meals, so that saves a lot of money.  Depends on what kind of a budget you're on.

I did not use the hotel photographer, because I was wary of it.  I hired Ivan Luckie, and haven't gotten my pix back yet, but would be happy to share them when I get them.  I paid a guest pass fee for him as well as his assistant (70 USD each) and that was it.  Their dinner was included, which was nice for all of us!  I know the rates are changing with the new year, so I'd ask Lupita about fees for that.

The disco was great for a reception!  My guests and I danced the night away, and the service and music was great!  :-)
