Bride2B2014, have you emailed Lupita yet about any of this? She can give you the most accurate information firsthand. I do know that dinner in one of the restaurants is definitely a less expensive option that a beach dinner. Dinner in the Brazilian restaurant for all 25 of us was free when I got married.

Following up, I emailed Lupita the following (her responses were in green, and then I have the newest reply BACK to her below that in pink)

For us then, if we have 40 people, we are looking at

- 2 different locations available for private reception (beach or elite palapa) - $500-600 dollars - NEITHER LOCATION CAN HOST A RECEPTION BEYOND 10:30PM? At the Royal Elite Palapa you can stay until 12:00am, on the beach we can not stay longer than 10:30pm

- $49 for 40 people = $1960 for dinner (SO A PRIVATE AREA INCLUDES NO # OF PEOPLE, ALL GUESTS HAVE TO BE PAID PER HEAD?) The private area includes, all the set up as the cahirs tables, plaque, table clothes, white wine, red wine, beer, water and sodas

- $18 for all 40 people (liquor) = $720 The open bar is 18usd per person per hour

------(FROM TODAY, BELOW) -----   Thanks so much, I've calculated an estimated price based on our needs. Please advise if I've got it all correct!   Symbolic caribe package - 1500   Private reception area - 600 (elite palapa) ***IS THE PALAPA LARGE ENOUGH TO SUPPORT 40 OR SO PEOPLE AND A DANCE AREA?   Reception food: $49 for 40 people = $1960 for dinner   Set up fee at palapa - $0 (unless "extras" are requested)   Liquor for the palapa rental - you indicated 18 pp, per hour. Is there ANY amount of hours included in the private reception area? Or would we be paying 18 per person, per hour, but about 3 hrs? (ie 720X3 = 2160)...I saw you mentioned that WINE AND BEER is included in the private area of the palapa...I am wanting to clarify WHAT alcohol costs would be for us total.

MrsShoreytobe, did you end up choosing Sandos Playacar for your wedding? I am getting married there on October 5, 2013 and I haven't decided yet where to have the reception. We're going to do the private reception, but I'm not clear on the dancing options. Lupita told me it's $800-$1500 to put out a dancefloor (?!?!). Sooo the question is whether we can have dancing on the beach or palapa without putting out an extra dancefloor, whatever that means. It also looks like a lot of people rent out the disco until 11pm, but it seems like that would require everyone to finish their dinner and migrate to the disco - I'm not sure I would like that situation because it would mean no dancing during dinner, no mingling at the dinner tables between the bouquet toss and cake-cutting, etc.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and what you guys have decided to do!

We are getting married here in the US before we head down to avoid any of that drama. Depending on how many people go I think I want to go with the dinner on the beach since if you do a couple of hours open bar for like a cocktail hour it almost comes out to the same. I had thought about if we do dinner at restaurant have mariachi meet us there and then walk us to beach while playing to start off the beach party. It is all still up in the air. I am interested in a light up dance floor too.

AmazingGrace--Were the prices 800-1500 for a plain dance floor?

Belisaria - I didn't specifically ask for the light-up dancefloor so I assume the 800-1500 was for plain. Did you ask about prices for a light-up? That sounds pretty fabulous. JessiTaylor, sorry to hear about the paperwork drama. We're also getting the marriage paperwork done in the US before the wedding - just seems soooo much easier and cheaper. We live in the Netherlands so this will actually involve flying to New York for two days en route to Playa del Carmen to swing by the courthouse, but it still seems like way less hassle. I think we'll go with dinner on the beach too. The Royal Elite Palapa photos that Lupita sent me don't seem very inviting.
