How long are your response times?

Recommended Posts

We're heading down to PV for our scouting trip on Friday (eek!) and I'm getting close to pulling my hair out! How long does it take the hotels/people to respond to you? I thought I had everything set, trying to stay first around the Marina (in case we choose Las Caletas), then downtown (in case we do Hacienda San Angel) and then south near Playa Fiesta. But the Westin didn't respond at all, I had e-mails offering reservations at Villa Premier and the Buenaventura, but when I tried to send the dates for reservation.... radio silence! So now I'm trying to find places to stay. I'm not sure we should even bother with Villa Premier/Buenaventura, because I'm marginally type A (can you tell!) and I'm worried that working with coordinators who don't respond for weeks will stress me out. Has anyone else had this experience? smile41.gif

Hey you! I'm sorry you've had this common experience - and, unfortunately, it is common. I've written on this before but, so you know, most hotels have one coordinator who handles ALL of their weddings and events and some of these hotels have several weddings in one day - so, you are working with coordinators who are overwhelmed, over worked and underpaid. And the turn over is fairly common as well - so the coordinator you start with is probably not the coordinator you will end with. I don't mean to discourage you, just to be honest with you as to how these things work down here.

I don't want you to think I'm dissing on the hotel coordinators because I like a lot of them and a few of them are friends of mine - most of them are doing their very best and really do want your wedding to be a success and for you to be happy - but it can be a very overwhelming job and makes it difficult to respond as quickly as they might like. Also, we have just started the high season - I can't even get a hold of my gfriends for cup of coffee everybody is soooooo busy!! Vallarta becomes a madhouse at the start of November and that lasts until June.

If you are Type A personality and just going with the flow and how it ends up is how it ends up isn't your "thing" wink.gif, I highly recommend you consider hiring an outside coordinator to deal with all the crossing of the t's and dotting of the i's - OR you consider doing a villa event.

Hi DB2B. I just came back from PV last week. I am using Carol from VOWS as my coordinator. She is wonderful. I wrote to quite a few and she was always the quickest to respond. When I met her I knew she was the one for me. She took us around PV and Mishka came along one day. They're both great. I would definitely get a WC other than at a hotel. If you have any questions about Carol please pm me. Good luck!

By the way, I am type A for sure!!

Do all of us "Type A's" go to Mexico to get marriedhuh.gif I also had a problem getting in touch with my coordinator who coordinates for 2 hotels. I got my travel agent to flip her a I am on her radar and am not having further problems. I decided on a destination wedding for less stress and have now realized that is exactly it! these coordinators work on Mexico time and it will all work out fine :)

Best of luck!!

Jamie

Thank you all of you! I'm glad to hear that I'm neither the only type A nor the only one with issues! We are planning on meeting with an outside planner, and a few of the places (Las Caletas, Playa Fiesta) have their own dedicated planners who have been super! I was freaking out because I couldn't get reservations made for our site visits at hotels just for the lodging, but I think we're sorted out. Now I just have to do laundry and pack! Jamie, I agree - I wanted a less stress wedding, and I think I'm just anxious to get down there and settle things. Just two more days! Yippee!

I felt the same way you did. Once you get to PV and see the place everything will come together. I was a mess before going and once I met with Kristin my WC Dazzling Details, found my villa (where I am getting married, visited The Dreams (where my guests are staying) and did a few tastings at local restaurants before choosing Plush CAtering. Oh and by the way did all of that in 2 days. You will feel so better.

I wish you the best.

For sure go to Las Carmiltas the view is amazing. For sure have wine late night on the beach as Las Palapas. Have a mojito at The Beach house and tell Marco, Kathy says hi. Have a margarita the size of your head at Pepe's. Check out Mismaloya, go to Omars bar and sit on the beach and do a shot.

Oh and ride the donkey through the bar.....

Have a blast

Yeah! We are also going to PV in 2 weeks. We are leaning toward Sayulita though so only will be in PV for 2 days. We are also visiting Playa Fiesta for a tasting and I am looking at about 5 villas. I have had pretty good luck with the places I contacted, but I all together gave up on Villa Amor in Sayulita. I never thought I was type A at all, but after leaving 15 messages for the WC I started to feel very type A. I never received a call back from her. I finally decided to just stay there and hope to corner her and force her to talk to me. I then made 2 reservations, both of which did not exist when I called to confirm. I would never want my guests to go though dealing with them so they are no longer on my list.

Best wishes on your trip! Take photos:)
