I have emailed Erika regarding this as it only says to do what i have done on the site but I want to ensure my bases are covered.

any insight would be great :)

I'm sorry, I have no idea about the documentation. My daughter did it all by herself. I have sent a PM to Celina as she just got married there, to see if she can help you out.

No problem Helen! I sent everything I was asked for and was on the site to Erika. She sent me an email stating that things have changed and that the Birth Certificates now have to be translated in the Mexican Province sad.gif I have already spent $300 to get them notarized and translated and am very bothered that things changed.

I guess go with the flow is the only thing I can do but the fact that the rule changed 2 weeks ago and I signed for my wedding last April and no one let me know rules changed.

WARNING TO EVERYONE ELSE GOING TO GET MARRIED IN PUERTO VALLARTA.

Hi there! I, too am a Canadian bride-to-be Nuevo Vallarta bound! Although, I'm from the much chillier Winnipeg, Manitoba. Your December date is quickly approaching; you must be SO excited! My fiance and I stayed at the Riu Vallarta this past winter...it's gorgeous! We ended up selecting the Grand Marival for our wedding, as it was more fitting for our guests, but your location will be amazing! We don't depart until January 31 and have just begun the paperwork to ensure our marriage is legal. If you can offer *any* advice, it'd be so appreciated!

I'm sure things are a tad hectic, so if you're unable to reply, I completely understand. Have a WONDERFUL time - best of luck!

Thanks for letting me know about the hotel. I am getting VERY excited :) and not very hectic to be honest....

so advice about the legalities... email your coordinator RIGHT AWAY... ask her if you have the right stuff but what i sent via courier $66 from Purolator well before the mandatory 15 days requested was:

4 witnesses passports (photocopies)
Wedding Application the coordinator sent to me
Bride and Groom passports (photocopies)
Bride and Groom birth certificates - notarized and translated - included the originals

The Coordinator emailed me when she received the documentation stating that although I had everything translated it has been changed and i would need to get it done in Mexico at their translator and would be charged when I arrive.

Needless to say that it was a bother to get it done here and I was very annoyed and frustrated. With a couple of emails back and forth she said she would try and figure out how to make it work out.

Turns out they changed it 2 weeks prior to them getting my documentation. My travel agent hadn't even heard of the change.....

I hope this helps you out for your destination but definitely make them confirm what you need to bring!

If you need anything else don't hesitate to contact me :)

Wow...THANKS so much for taking the time to share that advice, Jamie! Luck of the draw on your timing, eh?!

I'm a bit nervous sending our original birth certificates...but I guess that's the only way.

If I may impose on your advice once again - did you have any difficulty getting the wedding date you preferred? May I ask which resort you picked? (your profile shows Jamaica...please forgive me if I'm out-to-lunch on something, as I'm a newbie)

;-)

Thanks so much for sharing - it really helps!

Hi Jamie,

Congrats! We're both BC chicks!!! I did alot of research on the Riu's in Nuevo and the one you picked looks the best of the 3. I had a friend that got married at the Riu in Cabo and she said it was beautiful. Good Luck with all the final planning and have a great time!!

Kirsty
