Wedding Costs vs. The Recession

Don't feel guilty, it's your day. If people can't afford to go, then they can't make it.

 

We decided that we were going to Jamaica for the wedding, WE decided. We invited a small group of friends to join us there, and then we're having a reception when we get home to celebrate with everyone who couldn't make it to Jamaica. So we'll have a group of 20-30 (currently 22 confirmed) in Jamaica, and then a reception for 150-200 when we get back. For us, this seemed like a good balance

I totally understand! We are actually in the process of postponing our wedding. I know people say those who want (or can) attend will but I still feel bad. I just don't want to add on to people's financial difficulties. I think we are going to postpone with a later date or have a small local wedding.

I don't feel bad yet - I want to make this day in Mexico about two of us starting something new together!

 

If anything, I'll cancel the at-home reception if money situation gets tough in the family. Otherwise - working on non-guilty planning!

I have mixed emotions about a destination wedding. But really what it boils down to is my FI and I are going to get married in one of the most beautiful places in the world with those who can afford to come as our witnesses. It really is not about them it is about us and the start of our lives together.

 

I also think it would be far more expensive to have a wedding in my home town with 300+ people in attendance.

 

Could I be really selfish, probably but this is what we want and I think a special day like the day we get married should be exactly how we want it to be.

I think we will be going alone to Jamaica because of the cost....... it is sooooo expensive to go to the carribean from England ........ it would be £1005 per person for 1 week I dont know what that is in dollars

I am sad that they won't be there but i understand why
