Just admit I'm not important enough...

Hey Neen, at least they SENT the RSVP! Or they didn't check yes! on the RSVP and drop off the face of the earth! Yes, that happened.

It sucks, I know. And you are right to be a little bitchy. But on the bright side you are going to have a fabulous wedding with the ones that want to be there!!

Wow, I was glad to see this post and find out I am not alone! We invited most people we would have if we were having our wedding at home, and though our wedding is still 4 months away, we really haven't heard anything as far as RSVPs, except for the 25 confirmed and booked guests we have so far. I feel like maybe I made a mistake in not including reply cards, as I have everyone replying through our wedding web site.

I know we still have a lot of time, but it isn't like we will be sending out reminders or anything...I feel if people don't know if they are going at this point, they should respond. So, it kind of make you feel bad, since it doesn't seem like a DW is taken as seriously as the traditional kind.

I was also shocked to hear that some of you didn't receive gifts....I could maybe see it from those guests who came, but to receive no acknowledgement at all seems pretty bad! Yikes...I guess I wouldn't be surprised though, just based on the RSVP factor!

I think you hit the nail on the head with that one! Some people just don't "get" it! It seems like people would travel across the country for a wedding...but not to the caribbean!? Sorry...but I would much rather go to DR, or MX, or Jam. then to butt-f#$% nowhere Canada!! lol

Yea it really sucks when the people closest to you who you really want at your wedding end up not showing, but honestly, unless they were ghetto about it, I would not be offended. Unlike some of the previous posters, I would not take a huge offense if someone put their own vacation or house project, or schooling, or whatever else in their lives a priority over my wedding vacation. It is basically asking for $1000+ and one week out of them where for a traditional wedding it is one day and maybe a few dollars for a gift and a card; the difference in the level of commitment is huge. It hurts a bit sometimes, especially if you know you would have moved mountains for them, but the reality is sometimes we are NOT important enough and we just have to deal with it. Everyone has priorities and the way we weigh them are different. As many have said, you will have an awesome wedding no matter what with the people that did prioritize your wedding and the ones that didn't won't matter.

What a relief, and at the same time how sad is it to know that most of us DW brides are in the same boat. One of my 'good' friends cancelled. She had the guts to actually call me and tell me, but it was the excuse of 'lack of money' that really got me. Country club membership, leafs season tickets, 400,000 house (which mama in law put the deposit down for) and wedding paid for and you can't afford it...Riiiiighhht!

True colours come out, and as far as I'm concerned we'll come out ahead in the long run knowing who we REALLY can trust and who will be there for us in the long run. There have been some pleasant surprises with people we never would have thought would come. So it all works out in the end.
