Alterations- NYC or TX?

Recommended Posts

I'm having a dilemma.... I bought my wedding dress in Texas and I had originally thought that I would do my alterations down there, but now I'm not sure if I should have them done up here?? I'm thinking it would be cheaper to do them in Texas, but would the price difference really be that much different considering I'd have to fly down on multiple occassions??

I'm in your same boat. I live in NYC, but am from and got my dress in Dallas. I'm just getting my alterations done there when I go back to visit. I'm going home for Christmas, then maybe in February and again in April. So it just makes sense for me to do it there. You also have to consider the price of shipping the dress up here from TX. Are you not planning on going back to TX before your wedding?

I think it depends on where your dress is now and how often you come back to Texas...

Like Casey said, if you are coming down for several occasions, have it done in Texas. I don't think it's cost effective if you have to make a special trip to Texas just for alterations. But if you want an excuse to come down, it might be ok :)

Thanks for the input!

The thing is... My wedding isn't until Oct 2009 and my dress just arrived at the bridal salon. So either I have my MOH hold it for me and have alterations when I'm down or have them ship it here. Do you guys know how many fittings alterations take?

Thank You,

Mona

Well...that depends on how much you need to do. I am having some major re-working and its only taking 3 fittings. I think normal is 1 to 2. If I were you, I wouldnt do alterations until closer to the wedding unless you don't change weight (up or down) very much. My seamstress said 5 pounds wouldn't matter, but any more than that and I should see her about another fitting.

Since the dress is in Dallas, I would do alterations here unless you just really want to be with your dress at all times. How often are you planning on coming down next summer-fall?
