Christene, please let us know if the short birth certificate was enough I really don't want to have to do the long version I was looking at it and there are a few questions that I would have to really dig to find out. This is the 2nd time around for me and both my parents are not around

I sent a notarized copy of my passport and drivers license. I did not use my birth certificate. I scanned my documents into my computer and emailed a copy to Chandlyn. I got a reply back saying that everything is alright with my documents. I'm still waiting for them to receive them though.

Sara (saraece) just finished getting hers done with the Dominican consulate services in Ottawa and she had her long form bc, but the person there said it wasn't required. (She's getting married at RIU Bachata like me!) But apparently they keep the original down there (DR) so you should have another one anyway (long or short!).

My intension isn't to freak anyone out, but why did you not send your birth certificate? I am only wondering because everything I have read says it is a requirement for Jamaica. This kinda makes me laugh because you need your birth certificate to get a passport in Canada so it is kinda redundant.

It makes me wonder if it just goes back to Jamaican mentality which is no problem man. I just dont want to have happen what happened in Mexico. People found out that they weren't really married because the marriages weren't official. Maybe I am just making too much out of this?

I'll have to checck the info that Chandlyn sent me when I get home...but I think it said drivers license or birth certificate. You are making me nervous now lol

Dont mean to intervene...but I was just wondering how far in advance do you need to send your documents? We're getting married May 27th.

 

Did they contact you to ask for it? Did they give you a deadline?

Ellipse - it does say either. I copied info right off the Riu site and posted it in this thread. I think Jamaican's are just really laid back.

 

 

Dinzers -i just sent mine last week and my wedding is Jan 22/09 but I was also taking into consideration the christmas season. They need to arrive in Jamaica one month prior (these r the requirements from Riu).

You don't need to mail your paperwork. You can email or fax it. I can't find the fax # right now, but will post it if I find it. We're just going to email it, so we can save some money & feel more confident about it getting there on time.

Ok so my fiancee went to the post office and I almost fell off my chair when he called me. He got a quote of $73.60 to send it which arrives in 4 business days or $17.85 to take 2 weeks. I said well then I guess it will take 2 weeks cause the other is highway robery.

 

Fozzy - Did you fax yours? I haven't seen any brides on here that have done that. From what I have read Chandlyn says the original needs to be mailed.
