There is is FeLuk (Feline Leukemia) which is very easy to transfer but if your current cat had it you'd probably know by now and it doesn't usually act that quickly. (at least if your kitten got it from your current cat, although it doesn't sound likely that either one had it). There is also FIP which can go undetected but no one really truly knows if it transferable or not. It sounds like a poisoning to me. Did your kitten ever try to eat your toothpaste?
We know it's not Leukemia b/c our other cat was tested and he didn't have it. I'm not sure it's poisoning, only b/c its a weird coincidence both the other cat and this one got it. After the first one died we did a deep clean. We took everything toxic out. We only use green cleaning products and make sure they can't get into the bathroom. So I'm not sure where he would of found something. Plus he was so tiny he couldn't get anywhere. So I'm not sure what would of poisoned him??

Now, i'm way over my head on this one but i DO know that it happened to my uncle and his cats. It's a pretty different story because my uncle has a farm and his cats are barn cats but he cannot manage to keep cats alive on his property. He always had cats when I was growing up and the last one passed away when I was in late high school. Ever since then I've bugged him about getting more so that I can play with them when i visit him (not even once a year because of the distance). But he was told by a vet that there is something either in the air or the soil that is causing the cats to get some infectious thing (i want to say it's kind of like human pneumonia) and they can't survive it.

Were both of your kittens up to date on all vaccs? I'm not a huge fan of vaccinations but i do think they can be important for kittens and cats until about age 7
