Transporting Wedding Dress

Recommended Posts

I have to be honest - i am not sure calling the airline will help. The person that you speak to at a desk won't be the same person that will be the gate agent or flight attendants the day you fly. They're the ones that run the show. Your best bet is to just ask VERY nicely where you can put your dress AS you walk onto the plane. Just my opinion as a frequent (weekly) traveler!

My sister-in-law got married away and they didn't ask her to check her dress...and they put it in the closet up front. Most airlines are very accommodating for weddings...it is very surprising how nice everyone is when they know you are getting married!! Everything will be fine and you shouldn't stress over a minor detail...there are TOO many other things to stress about :)

I agree! I also think that carrying your own steamer is a great idea since they are relatively inexpensive. I'd trust the hotel if they are a popular destination for weddings. to them it's just another dress; they know how to handle it.

I just plan on carrying it on the plane.

Most airlines are very accomodating when it comes to weddings. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should anyone check their dress with their luggage. I don't even want to check any luggage these days! I just got back from picking up my dress in Paris and my luggage did not make the connection from the international terminal at Harstfield airport (Atlanta) to my domestic flight to San Jose during a 5 hours layover. Actually, all of the people in line at the luggage desk the evening I got in had had international connections at Harstfield. Apparently, there is no tracking system within the aiport for locating luggage. Luggage only gets scanned in at arrival, aka, when it gets offloaded from the airplane into an airport. The way they find your luggage is either 1: it gets scanned in at the wrong airport where it was mistakenly sent or 2: someone notices a certain bag was supposed to go to a certain destination and puts it on the next flight to that destination. Doesn't it make you feel better that the luggage system is so precise? I was pretty bummed that I may lose all of my purchases in Europe, but so happy that I had carried on my dress and shoes (rolled up in the largest carry-on size bag I could find.) UPS has a better tracking system but it is simply not worth the risk. Carry it on! Roll it up if you have to, but definitely keep it with you at all times, along with anything else you plan on wearing with it (shoes, accessories, lingerie, etc..).
