Question for those who are full time students

Thanks Morgan, that is great advice. I just got my AA degree in May and now I am going to UT-Dallas for my psychology degree with teaching certification. I am going to call there tomorrow and see if I can schedule a meeting with someone from the financial aid office to go over my options. Right now my employer offers tuition assistance but I really can't stand my job anymore so that is also a big reason I want to go to school full time.

My FI just went back to school full time in Sept. He saved up for it though...so that he had some extra money to get by with just my income. He cannot work during the year but he will work fulltime for 3 months in the summer. So if you get the summers off that is a great time to make some money!

I think the waitressing or catering job sounds great though because you can most likely have the flexibility you need, plus depending on where you work the tips can be substantial!

I quit my full-time job last year to go back to school full-time. It was scary, but so far so good. I didn't work at all for a few months and right now I have a job at a restaurant as a host/ take out person. Good thing is they don't open til 4 in the afternoon and the latest they are open is 11pm on weekends. So, I have my days free and don't have to be out til 2 in the morning to make money. I agree with pp's that a restaurant or catering thing would work really well and you'll make cash every shift so you'll always have money.

I am in my 2nd yr of grad school and squeeze in 1 day of bartending a week. This is new- becuase I worked 3-4 shifts last year but there is no way I can do that this time around so FI and I have figured it out. My unpaid internship takes up about 25 hrs a week - but is clearly worth it.

I have stafford loans, scholarship and his help. I struggle becuase I have always been financially on my own so his help has been something that I have learned to accept. YOu can do it though. You just may have to skip out on the spa days...

Like everyone else said FASFA is a good way to see if you qualify for aid. I believe if you do you can get up to around 4,000. It just depends on your last years income. Some jobs i had to get by with school was actually a coffee shop job. Depending on where you live it makes pretty decent money. In california, my friend and i were making 10-11 an hour as a shift manager plus tips. It was great for me because i could work early morning shifts and go to school after. It wasn't much but i found that it was flexible with school. My manager didn't care if i needed to switch shifts as long as someone took it or would work with me during exam time. Another thing i did was personal assistant jobs. Most wanted full time but if you look hard enough , there are people hiring to help them with groceries, cleaning up the house, some filing, errands etc. some of them were also willing to work with my hours as long as i got the job done. I was shocked at how much people were willing to pay. I was offered one personal assistant job for $15 bucks an hour and he was totally willing to work with my school hours. I would check out the craigslist in your area. Just type in personal assistants in the jobs department. They usually post if they are willing to be flexible with hours and i found some that actually ask for students.

I would also check out scholarships. My friend gto some random scholarship she applied for online and got about 3,000 a semester. Not a whole lot but every dollar helps:) Good luck!
