Resort of my choice or resort that everyone can afford???

Recommended Posts

Hello there!!

I need some advice from you ladies. I am trying to decide between a few resorts in Riviera Maya for my wedding in 2009. I am crazy about the Secrets Maroma but the prices that I was quoted are a bit out of my peoples budgets. So I am stuck between having people telling me to get married in a place of my choice and have some guests stay at other hotels. Some people are telling me that I need to take my guests monetary positions in mind and go with resorts where everyone can be together. What is the proper etiquette in this casehuh.gif? I am so confused. huh02.gif

HELP ME PLEASE!!!

It just depends on who you want there. If you want to take a chance that people might not go due to finances pick the resort you really want. If it is more important to you that everyone be able to go then pick the resort they can afford. There is no right or wrong answer. It just depends on what you want.

your wedding your choice.Price it out do ,you want your guests with you all the time?Remember to include day passes in your figures.I dont think there is any etiquette to follow. From posts ive read before on here remember the most vocal guests are often the people that let you down and say they cant make it.As im writing this im saying look go where you want to go.x

yes, don't forget if they stay elsewhere there will be a ~$50-$100 day pass fee.

it was very important for all of us to stay at the same hotel. to avoid having guests stay elsewhere, i picked a less expensive hotel. i just did a lot of research to make sure i found a place that i loved that wasn't expensive. if it was just the two of us going, i probably would have picked a fancier place, but i really loved our hotel.

my favorite part of a DW was all being at the hotel together. it was so much fun!! when we'd head to the buffet, we'd just ask for a big table and people would join us. it was awesome my family, his family & our friends spending time together. we live out of state & never had the opportunity for a get together like this. it was also nice for the guests that on the wedding day they could just walk on over & then head back to their rooms to freshen up before dinner.

what about moving to secrets after your wedding for a honeymoon?

We narrowed it down to two resorts and then used the more reasonably priced resort for the wedding and the more luxurious resort for our honeymoon. That decision worked out perfectly for us, because our DW resort had lost of activities, entertainment, etc as opposed to our honeymoon resort, which was more of a luxury resort with less nightlife. We knew our guests were going to be a majority of parties, so we took that into account.

You may want to make a list of pros and cons for each resort for a)your desires, B) your MUST-HAVES, c) pricing, d)what you envision your guests enjoying most about each resort, etc etc etc and see where the hammer falls.

I know it's a tough decision!

I completely agree!

And might I add that it isn't the end of the world if your guests don't all stay at the same resort. They'll still be at the wedding which is the point of the trip :)

i think that you have to decide what is most important to you . If your immediately family is most important then talk to them about the packages and see how they feel. If you are having an AHR then those who are unable to attend the wedding can be apart of it then. You can show the wedding ceremony their as well. I plan to change locations for my honeymoon, but will make sure that the resort i choose will have the options that are most important to me.

I'd say go with what you want I wish I had!!

We looked at a resort for kids but was still good. Now the kids aren't coming and if they are they are staying another hotel!! Gutted I'd have picked a more plush hotel if I'd known that lol

You can't rely on guests they might not make it anyway and some people will make an excuse no matter what so do what you want to do
