Thanks for the well-wishes everyone! Every positive vibe in the universe helps I think:-)

Things *seemed* to go well today...well, they did...But of course, we won't REALLY know for another 10 days or so. That's when you do the pregnancy test after embryo transfer day.

Best of luck to everyone too:-) I'll keep y'all posted:-)

I just read all 29 pages, and thank you girls for being so honest and real. We are getting married in Novemeber, I'll be just after turning 36 and my fiance will be almost 35 so we have decided we want to start TTC in September. In the mean time this thread has been so in-sightful as to start planning. I am just about to order Taking Charge of Your Fertility (TCOYF) from Amazon and already can't wait for it to get here. I also purchased prenatal vitamins and an iron suplement. I am registered for Fertility Friend, and am heading out the purchase the termometer so I can start my tracking and charting! Thank you so much for all the great advice, I figure if we have problems when we start trying I at least have these few months head start to start tracking my cycles.

Reading these 29 pages as been an emotional one and I wish everyone the best. I am so nervous with my age, but even more so the fact that my periods are so irregular, don't get them very often, and when i do it's hardly worth even calling a period.

One thing that's a bit confusing on this thread is the abbreviations! OK so I know some, but others I have no clue! Can someone help fill in the blanks :

AF           Aunt Flo

BFP        Big Fat Positive

BFN        Big Fat Negative

FX           Fingers Crossed

OPK       Ovulation Predictor Kit

SA           Semen Analysis

BCP        Birth Control Pill

CM

BD/BDâ€ing

CBFM

LP

CD#

There is a list of abbreviations here - http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/60810/ttc-abbreviations, but I filled in most of your blanks.

BD/BDâ€ing - baby dance (sex)

CBFM - I have no clue!

LP - luteal phase (the part of your cycle that is after ovulation and before AF arrives.  You'll learn all about this in TCOYF)

CD# - cycle day number.  CD1 = the first day of AF

We are still not pregnant after 2+ years.  For personal reasons that I can't get into right now, we are taking a break.  Maybe it'll be the break that we need?  Maybe we just aren't meant to have children?  I'm beginning to be at peace with that thought, I think.

Hey there!

I see you're form Ireland, so I'm not sure how things work over there in terms of when they recommend you see a fertility specialist and get tests etc...

In Canada, they generally recommend at your age (and my age! over 35) to try for six months and THEN consult a doctor.

I REALLY wish we had taken more initiative and gotten tests done earlier.

We probably would have had to pay for the tests instead of having them covered by health care, but I really felt we kind of wasted six months. We totally could have asked our regular doctor to order the tests, we didn't need a "fertility clinic" to do that.

So, if you're concerned, and especially b/c you have such irregular periods, you should consider going to a doctor sooner than later and asking for some tests on both you AND you hubbie-to-be.

If no red flags show up, great! keep trying for six months or whatever and then get fertility intervention.

BUT, if red flags DO go up, this will save you precious time!

Whatever happens, good luck:-)

Thanks Simistar! I'm from Ireland but living in US at the moment (long story, came here for work temporarily, met my fiance, well boyfriend at the time, decided to stay longer and got a green card via work, so split my time between the two as my company is international), so my health insurance is in US. I think I will definitely make a doctors appointment and go ask for the tests. My doctor isn't terrible, but not great either, if I feel she is not taking this seriously I think this will be a good sign for me to change PCP. Thank you so much for the advice! Ordered my book and thermometer last night and already have my prenatal vitamins and iron supplements. I quit smoking almost 4 years ago, started working out at least 3 hours a week since February so overall doing good, although I do want to focus on less stress at work, i literally work around the clock and I can feel it taking it's toll on me, plus I want to cut back on the booze, have gotten into the habit of having some wine to alleviate the work stress and wedding stress and I think I should cut back or even cut out altogether if planning to have a baby.
