Isla Mujeres Palace Resort

Hi jlmaki,

I am bringing my own photographer with me. I already told the WC about him and she was fine with it. Since most of us are getting married before you, you will get to hear our reviews about the photography once we are married! I am also using the resort photographer since I bought a package through them.

Hey Jlmaki:

I actually just e-mailed our wc last week about this. We really like Cecilia Dumas who lives in the cancun area and her prices are rather reasonable. The wc told us the charge to bring your own photographer is 250 plus a day pass. So instead we decided to stick with the resort photographer and then do an around the island and trash the dress session the next day.

I didn't realize that you can buy any photo package from the resort you want and as long as you buy the cd of the pictures, you get all the pictures the photographer took.

Also, if you email your wc, she should be able to get you samples of the resort photographers work. Though I only got one sample.

When is your wedding date?

hey kblocker, that is very informative! Thanks! I am getting married may 1, 2010 so haven't spoken to the wc yet, which is fine. I also was thinking of cecelia dumas -- she looks GREAT!

Yes, the cd from the hotel is a great offer. I think I will end up doing an a la carte package instead of one of the combo ones (they came out with new ones so the catamaran ones I think you guys are doing is gone and they are all themed with colors -- it's actually kind of silly, I think) but anyways, I will I guess have to buy some package then through the hotel and consider doing what you are and a second round with cecilia the next day. The other thing that I don't know, which I will have to ask the wedding coordinator, is how much TIME does the photohrapher spend with you on say, package A. I see the number of prints you get but I want to know how long he/she will be there!

Thanks again -- you guys are so helpful and I can't wait to hear all about how everything went!

Jess

Hi girls -

I've never uploaded pics before here so not sure if this will work but trying to send various pics I've received from the WC of different set up options at IMP.

Hello Ladies-

It has been awhile since I have posted but I found this review on trip advisor and knew it would make everyone happy. Have a great day!

This was my daughter's choice for her wedding, and I was concerned about a destination wedding even after visiting and meeting with the event planner and the food and beverage manager in November, 2008. I worried for no reason. Rebeca and Matias did OUTSTANDING preparation and execution!! And the staff can not do enough for you!

Bar set ups, food presentation, room delivery of attendance gifts, reception set up, flower arrangements, wedding bouquets and boutonnieres, beach set up for wedding, champagne toast on the beach immediately after, sunset catamaran cruise after ceremony, welcome cocktail reception in the rotunda, taco lunch farewell, DJ and guitar trio: LOTS of things to coordinate and ALL were executed spectacularly! And the staff can not do enough for you!

And then there are the "all inclusive" items everyone gets: food and drink 24/7, nightly entertainment (two great shows plus two nights of karaoke: I think they brought this back because our crowd had so much fun the first time!), great pool area, nice beach (on the west side of the island so NO surf/waves), both with plenty of lounges and thick towels, rooms are terrific (in room safe holds a laptop), wifi, phone calls from room to USA included, appropriately stocked hotel store, very good dollar/peso exchange rate at front desk. And the staff can not do enough for you!

I could go into a lot of detail on all the above but this is probably the best recommendation: a group of my friends seriously suggested we return on an annual basis!

And the staff can not do enough for you!

I have seen other reviews which complain about the daily influx of people from the other Palace resorts: they arrive at 10 AM and leave at 3 PM. The facilities were never over taxed and their presence did not detract from our enjoyment in any way. The other complaint I have seen is about the loud music from the Caribbean Cabaret adjacent to the property: it is not constant and goes from about 8 PM to 10 PM: again, did not affect our enjoyment of the Isla Mujeres Palace. And no, you may not walk over and use their giant water slide!

Almost forgot: a more than adequate international wine list in the one restaurant, although no USA wines, and there aren't "common" names you will recognize. And make sure you have the guacamole which is freshly made! And the Mayan coffee! And grilled fresh fish tacos at lunch! And great lunch buffet selections! And lots of ala carte dinner choices!

And the staff can not do enough for you!

For reference sake our party had 46 of the 62 rooms at the resort, and the whole party was there for 3-4 nights; some stayed additional nights. I did spread some pesos around even though it is "all inclusive:" the outstanding service EARNS some additional compensation! The staff is sincerely friendly, courteous and helpful.

The Isla Mujeres Palace is not for those looking for a "party palace," although we brought our own party! It is a small resort with excellent service and facilities on a small island.

It was outstanding.

Liked — service

Disliked — two hours minimum from airport: to ferry terminal, ferry ride, taxi to resort

Hey ladies~

I agree with Kblocker- it's been a while since anyone has posted anything! I found that same review on tripadvisor and I wrote the person a message. Here is what he wrote back. Hope this helps answer a few questions for you girls!

Hello! I will answer your question in the order asked:

-we had two catamarans for our 90+ people; older/less agile people sat in the aft well and small cabin (8-10), a few lay in the mesh nets over the water on the bow; the rest on any almost flat surface; crowded? yes, but certainly part of the fun! And there is a $30US(or was it $40?) fee per person over 30 people.

-hor dourves and drinks were served all over the boat by wait staff (there is a gratuity fee for this, I think it was $2.50US per person

-don't know the difference between legal and civil; I know it is legal in US; blood test required ($180US); ceremony was in Spanish by a woman, you can have English for I think $150US more; fun part of ceremony when bride/groom have to thumb print the documents; also when they reply "Si"

-also had a champagne toast right there on the beach, I think there was additional cost

-the only cost I remember for the reception was the DJ and a larger cake if you want; your guests are paying all inclusive fees

-daughter does not like floral center pieces; we purchased 10 conch shells 200 yards in front of the IMP; daughter brought glass "stones" to spread around them; I will say that the flowers we did order for different purposes were well done

-yes, Rebeca arranged for the bellman to put the welcome gifts in the rooms; there is a $2.50US charge per room

I strongly encourage incurring the expense of a pre-wedding visit at the IMP with Rebeca. My daughter and I (note that is ALL that went:fewer "decision" makers!) went in early November(Jan 23 wedding), and I know it made a difference for us and Rebeca: emails just are not the same as face to face, such as talking about different menu choices or floral arrangements or........anything else. This would also alleviate a LOT of your stress: you will experience Rebeca's desire to help you.

Hi ladies! I'm thinking of having my wedding at the IMP in May 2010 as well, things are super tentative right now and I'm getting some awesome info from you guys! MonicaL, can you please email me the info on the catamaran? I tried opening the document but apparently I don't have enough points to do that (whatever that means, it seems kind of silly). My email address is [email protected] and would really appreciate the info!

Keep up with the informative posts, and please please please share your experiences after the wedding!!
