I stayed at Isla Palace for my honeymoon in June. I am so jealous of you guys! I got married in Mexico at a bigger resort an then came to the Palace for a honeymoon. My husband and I both wish we would have had the wedding at the Palace. The staff is amazing. It had just opened when we were there and only five other couples were staying in the hotel at the time! I have heard it has been that way for awhile. But daytrippers come to fill up the place until three each day. It was nice, crowded and loud during the day and quiet and all to yourselves at night. We can't wait to go back. Any questions let me know. I didn't read all the replies but it seems there is concern about the bar next door maybe? The pirate show place I am assuming. Don't believe the complaints you here about it. It wasn't that loud, didn't even remember it was there most of the time. Oh, while you are on the island you have to go to the turtle farm (you can walk from the Palace), rent a golf cart and explore the island, go to the fire show that the resort puts on. Congrats on picking such an awesome place!

Hello mexicobrideIndiana! Thanks for the info - it's so much more reassuring to know someone who's been there. Can you let me know what other places that are walkable from the Palace? Thanks.

Kristen928 - Sorry, don't know on the legal ceremony - we're doing symbolic

Have a good weekend

I know what you mean. It is so refreshing to have someone say such wonderful things about our choice. I really want to know the name of the pirate show place. We are getting so excited now that the date is confirmed. Did anyone ask about staying at the Moon Palace until the day of the wedding?? I think I might have all guest stay at the Moon Palace until the day of the wedding to switch it up a bit. I am suppose to talk to the wc on Monday. Anyway, knowing some other bars in walking distance would help me too. Thanks

I have that same question about the schedule for the legal ceremony. I will ask Rebeca.

Also, Rebeca did tell me that the symbolic ceremony is in English and you can create your own if you want. She said it will be too difficult to create your own legal ceremony though.

I also wonder if they can tell you what is going on at the resort for the different nights you are staying (ie fire show etc.) so that we can put that on a brochure or something. I am going to ask Rebeca that also.

I'll let you know what she says.

Kristin928- I think you are getting married a week after me. Did you know that expedia and travelocity have no rooms available for 4/22-4/29 at least. I am not sure about your dates but I figure they are the same. So, we were a little worried that we may not have reserved enough rooms and our guests would be out of luck. I asked Rebeca and she said if the resort fills up, our guests can stay at another Palace Resort and still be in the wedding group reservation (ie counts towards cocktail partys, etc.) and get in for the wedding. Just letting you know in case you run into the same problem.

Kblocker- I just did a quick search on travelocity and expedia and my week is still open. Luckily, most of my guests aren't arriving until Thur or Friday (April 30 and May 1) so I am not worried about the resort filling up. I do find it odd that the resort would be so full!!! From every review I read it sounds like this resort only has a handful of guests at one time. Being the end of April you have missed all of the spring break rush too. I am not doing a wedding group reservation to get a free event as I was able to find MUCH better rates on other internet sites besides the palace. I do find it sad that they think we would ask our guests to pay more money to book through them just so we can get a free cocktail party?

Are you doing a legal or symbolic ceremony? I am doing a legal ceremony and in one of Rebecca's past emails she said we could add stuff on at the end (like a sand ceremony). She did mention that someone in our family or friends group would have to be the one to do it since the Justice of the Peace (or whomever performs the ceremony) can't change the format. I am just trying to 'go with the flow' but I guess I want to know if I should buy the sand ceremony stuff if it's going to be a pain! I do want to do programs so anyone finds out the order of events in the legal ceremony I would appreciate it!!!!

Good idea about the schedule of events for the week that the hotel puts on! I didn't know that they did a fire show! That would be fun to incorporate into our cocktail/welcome night!

Well, Rebeca got back to me but I don't think she understood what I was asking for when I asked for order of events in the wedding. So I have re-written her for that. She did give me an example of what they provide in a week for activities but did not have specifics for the week we would be there. I attached it below.

We are doing a legal ceremony but she told us if we wanted to customize anything we should just do a symbolic. So we decided to just go with the flow also because we want a legal ceremony. So we won't be doing the sand ceremony.

Does anyone know, do we have to get apostille documents? I can't understand from the website very well. Neither of us were previously married though so I don't think we do.

Kristin- where did you find the great rates? We might need to tell some guests. We originally went through a travel agent and the prices were higher than through palace resorts.

I hope everyone's day goes well!

Hi girls -

I also got a ton of info from Rebeca recently - happy to share if you want to email me at spenceandann at yahoo. To recap, we're doing the symbolic ceremony and expect to have 30-40 guests. Wedding is June 20 and guests will be there June 16-21. We're not sure if we'll have the 20 rooms booked to qualify for the free reception so at this point we're planning to do the dinner reception which I understand to be $400 per table of 10 people. We're also going to do the 'free' ceremony with add-on's (cake, flowers, etc.) since we'll have a family member there taking photos. I think most of it's starting to make sense - still a little nervewracking being so far away! A couple things I'm unclear on I thought maybe y'all might know:

Music - during the ceremony we were going to pay for a harpist ($400) and then we just wanted to bring an ipod/speakers during the reception but I think Rebeca said this wasn't an option? What did you guys decide to do?

Centerpieces - Rebeca said I could bring my own. Are you guys doing that? I can't really see spending $150 per table for flowers that will just be dead in a few hours. Let me know if you guys have any good ideas for this!

Makeup/Hair - I was planning to use this lady Ann-Marie I found online who lives on Isla. She charges a little more ($180) but says she does "airbrush" makeup which is good for the heat. What are you guys doing?

Thanks for sharing!

Andrea
