Isla Mujeres Palace Resort

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies,

As for table centerpieces, I'll probably bring a cluster of candles to add light and a few other splashes of color. My colors are blues and naturals. I want to keep it simple, natural and elegant. I'm also going to go shopping in the area when we get there for favors and gifts. There are a lot of local art shops.

I haven't planned anything for the guests other than the catamaron sunset cruise after the ceremony. I'll include information on all the activities to do, but everyone will be on their own.

Our wedding is in October and I have been hearing that it is hurricane season. I did some research and it seems like it will be ok. Has anyone been there during that time?

Fun planning!

Kristin928,

Thank you for the catamaron pictures! Are you planning on changing out of your dress before the cruise? It seems like everyone needs to be VERY casual for the cruise. Did the resort give you any other information? I'll have a guest with a baby. Did they say there was any seating in the shade?

My wedding planner can't seem to give me any detailed information.

Thanks!

Hi Sunshine... I just wanted to remind you that if you are going to do candles for centerpeices make sure that you either have large hurricane glasses or that the room your reception is in will be enclosed. We had candles on our tables for our wedding and the candles blew out within a minute! It was a bummer... but I really think hurricane glasses will illuminate the area even more anyways.

Hi SunshineG,

At the moment I am not planning on taking off my dress for the catamaran. I think we can get some amazing pictures while on the boat and I don't want to be in anything but my gown!

There is no shade/shelter from the elements so the couple with the baby might choose to not go. No seats also. I think it will depend on weather conditions that day. I am thinking there is a deck below what you can see in the pictures- where you can see the bartender. It's all a guessing game right now but I think it will be fun anyway!

I went to Cozumel Palace at the end of Sept in 2005 and it was amazing! Yes, you do risk hurricane season but we had perfect weather. Also, the resort was so empty since it was off-season in Mexico! I think Oct is a great time but I didn't feel like risking a hurricane (so I chose May)!

For the ladies that picked their menus, is that for a private event? Also for the girls bringing their own centerpieces, are you paying for a private event? I think I am going to take the free dinner reservation but I am not sure how I can work out the centerpiece/seating chart thing then. I was thinking of just making name cards and placing them out on my own based on how they set up tables for me? Does anyone know?

Events- I am making a list of things to do on the island but I am trying to keep things open so people can do whatever they want (and can afford). I am paying only for the catamaran ride after the wedding. The other thing I might do is rent those 4x4 golf cart things to drive around the island as one big group. Then people can see the entire island and take pictures along the way. I think if I get 10 carts I can get a better deal! Bargin baby! wink.gif

For your invitations are you asking guests to not bring gifts? My mom asked me to put wording like that in my invitations but I think that is tacky. I was thinking about telling people one on one to please not bring any gifts to mexico as they are too hard to get home. Does anyone have any other ideas?

I love chatting about our plans! Let's keep this up!

Hi girls -

I was thinking the same sort of thing for centerpieces - to do some sort of glass/candle thing. I have a email into our WC Katherine Rivera to see if this sort of thing is allowed - but as usual, it's slow responding : ) Since we're paying for th eprivate event I would assume it's okay.

We're going to do the catamaran the day before as sort of a rehersal activity. We looked into pricing and found a better deal if we use one of the rental services that's not part of the hotel - around $2,000 for 3 hours for 45 people including food and drinks. We're going to have a couple babies and small kids too so we're still deciding if catamaran or the other power boat thing would be a better option.

For other activities we've arranged a golf thing on Cancun one day and a trip to Garrafon park - but in the invitation we put "Cost varies" and "optional activitity".

I'm stuck with the gifts thing as well - since we're not including any sort of registry information in the invites I would hope people would know that we're not expecting gifts...especially after they're paying all of the $ for the trip! At this point I think it's just something I'll tell people one on one as I talk with them about the wedding.

For a favor gift thing I thought the idea of getting embroidered beach towels with our names, wedding date and location was a cute idea. I found a place online that charges $6 each. Thought it would be a cute way of identifying our little group down at the pool/beach and I know that I can always use beach towels : )

As for timing, I think October will be great. I'm stressing that late June is going to be super hot and humid and our guests are going to be big 'ol complainers - but as my FI says, "It's Mexico in summer. It's gonna be hot. Whoever doesn't realize that is an idiot" : ) Worse case scenario I was in Cabo during Hurricane Wilma a couple years at the end of August - I think it was a category 2 - anyway, it was pretty amazing to witness and the next day everything was back to normal and was perfectly sunny and gorgeous - but I know none of us need any sort of drama like that on our weddings so I'll definitely be thinking hurricane-free thoughts : )

Does anybody have any suggestions or thoughts I need to know, that you didn't know about this place?? I was also wondering what is the name of this bar or place next door everyone keeps talking about? Thanks so much and I am just getting so excited now that I found this place!!!! Yeah! Congrats on picking IMP! I can't wait for my wedding.

The only thing I didn't know about when I booked was that the justice of the peace (or whatever he's called) only does the ceremony in Spanish. You can pay for a translator though. Luckily, I have two good friends that are bi-lingual and have volunteered to do this. I ran it by the WC and she said it was fine.

I am trying to find out the name of the place next door too! If anyone knows please share! I was wondering if we could go next door and dance since the DJ costs so much at IMP.
