Hotel copyright/trademark question

Is is ok for me to use the name of my hotel on items like t-shirts, pens, logos, etc. Am I breaking any copyright laws??

For example, I would like to get personalized pens on them with our names, the date, RIU Bachata, Puerta Plata, DR. (I am also looking into getting t-shirts made too). Is this ok?? It crossed my mind that because the RIU is a hotel chain (ie, brand name!) then they would probably not appreciate this. But on the other hand it's free advertisement and I'm not selling them so??

 

Does anyone know the laws on this??

I don't have much to offer on this but I threw Beaches on everything for us ... our bags have it, the tshirts, you name it... If I could personalize with it I did it.

Are you just place the name or is it the RUI logo? The logo is where you would get into trouble.

Thanks!! I'm just using the name. I have my own logo that I'm making up!

Just be cautious! If you are using the name but incorporating it into your own design that should be fine - I just wouldn't use their "brand" on anything you print...

The hotel name and logo are trademark items. It really makes no difference if you are using the logo or the name because each are unique to the Riu hotel chain and distinguish them from other hotel chains.

 

Technically, the use of someone's brand name or logo is off limits, but chances are there won't be an issue because it won't be worth the time or money to pursue a trademark infringement case.

You could always ask your contact at the resort how they feel about it.....though you run the risk of them saying no....then you can't claim plausible deniability...

Thanks for the advice...I think I will contact the resort...or at least check with my TA!

I just think that its the name of the place we're going...so I put it on my invitations...why not put it on pens/shirts that are a part of MY wedding details! I don't know...I can see both sides. I guess that's why I'm asking!!
