Dreams Tulum Closure (consolidated thread)

Recommended Posts

For all you ladies freaking about about your questions going unanswered, how about you post your questions here so everyone knows what they are. Maybe we could put a list of questions together and send it to Landy/Lizette/Daniel as a group (they will be more likely to respond that way) or at least when somebody gets a hold of someone that person could ask everyones's questions. Also, maybe somebody else already received the answers to your questions. So how about post them here and let's get a list going, like Neen did with her Q&A session with Landy a few months back during her site visit.

Hi There Gals,

Here is a quick review of what I thought of the Barcelo Maya Palace:

The Resort:

The resort itself is very beautiful. The Palace is connected to the the Tropical and the Colonial and since we stayed at the Palace we had access to all 3 resorts amenities. There is a tram that takes you back and forth between the hotels. However, I found the tram to be infrequent after 2:00pm. The walk isn't too bad as we had to walk there for our appointment with the doctor for our blood test. The Palace is definitely an upgrade from the other resorts. It is new, opened in December of 2007. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Karen at the front desk is great. The room that we got was large and had a king bed with a sitting area with two sofas. It had a flat screen TV and a long vanity table. The bathroom was really nice. It had both a tub and a separate shower area and two sinks. There are 3 restaurants and 3 buffets. The food was very tasty. We had our reception at the French restaurant and it was great as we had all the steak and lobster that we wanted. As for those looking at the roof top option, there is an area there that you could possibly use as an ceremony location but I think could only sit about approx. 20-30 guests. Not too sure about it being too private though as just down the hall way is the lobby and it's also a walkway to the buffet restaurants but they might block it off and tell people to go around outside to the the buffet. I've seen the area setup for a cocktail hour and looked very lovely.

The wedding:

I met with Lizet on the Monday in the lobby. Sandra came with her and they both went with me and the wedding coordinator at the Barcelo( Gabby) to look at the different sites for the ceremony. I wanted an outdoor wedding so my options where the gazebo or the beach. The beach had two locations. Although the gazebo was beautiful I felt that it wasn't too private. There would be too much people staring at us as there was a walkway right beside it. Also I wanted a beach wedding so we decided on the beach location that was a little left to the gazebo. It was a little beach area that was a little bit away from the main beach and had a few trees around it. Also there was a small cliff. The other beach location was right in the center of the main beach. After I decided on the location I sat down with Lizet and went over the wedding details. I got the same date as promised and could of had the same time of 2:00pm as I originally had with Dreams Tulum but decided to move it to a later time so as it would not be as hot for my guests. They only had my wedding for that date so that was great. All pricing will be the same as what Dreams Tulum was offering. I was going with the free package so I only had to pay for the flowers in my hair that I wanted and to upgrade my cake. The free package only had a cake for 10 and I had 17 guests. We had a huge cake 3 tier for only $35! I wish it was as cheap back home to get a cake. Also we did not get charged $20 a person for having our reception dinner at the French restaurant. The guests were not forced to have a set dinner and could order whatever they wanted off the menu. So we ended up saving a bit of money. The setup of the ceremony was beautiful. I bought my own Tulle as I wanted a setup the same as SunBride but was not sure if they could do it as I had no idea what the resort looked like but I bought it with me anyway. Lizet used them on my chairs and they bought in an arch and she draped it with the tulle and made a flower aisle/walkway that I liked that SunBride had but with different coloured flowers. I will try to post some pics soon. My bouquet was beautiful. I was sad to leave it there as I couldn't take it on the plane. Overall, it was what I dreamed it to be and I couldn't be anymore happier.

I 'm sure I'm missing a few things that some of you are wondering about. Let me know and I'll see if I can answer any questions. Hoped this helped ease some of your worries.

Best of Luck,

Piggy (Amanda).

Amanda,

Thanks for the quick review. Question for you - Did you have a contract with pricing for your wedding at Dreams before you left? I am just wondering since I have never received one and turned in my wedding request months ago. I was hoping to have my wedding contract complete and pricing finalized before now. thanks

I feel like a bunch of people heard from folks that said we should have SOME information by today. So maybe (BIG MAYBE!) we'll hear an update today. I'm going to be optimistic and cross my fingers and toes! I know if any of us hear anything we'll post!

Major fingers crossed for just SOME information...

I have some information Amy. They hope to have "news" for us tomorrow. Yup, tomorrow. Remember when they said they would have news for us this past Monday?! Well, of course that came and went and guess what NO NEWS!

And to make things worse, I got an email from Daniel saying they will have something for us TOMORROW.

Does anyone else see a cycle here?

Anyway...for the first time I blasted off an email suggesting they STOP telling us they will have news on a certain day and stop giving us false hope. I don't see how DT knows when they will get news...it's up to the court system. So just stop giving us crap.

My wedding is exactly one month from today. I was being patient, wasn't calling, wasn't emailing because they had dozens of other weddings to move but when will it be my turn? ( I know, I know, I sound like a little girl)

The thing is...I never emailed or called them while the resort was open so they can focus on other weddings happening before mine. I purposefully waited my turn so that when my wedding came around I could have good communication with them and it be a breeze to plan. Well I'm outta luck here!

I am really just sick to my stomach. And unfortunately, everything is out of my hands so there's nothing for me to do.

I still havent heard back from Landy who said she would definately answer me yesterday.

I just wanted to offer that if anyone wants me to ask any specific questions at Barcelo while Im there just PM a list. I will be back home around Nov 23rd so it might be good for the December girls especially. Since we dont know when it will reopen I think everyone should work on their backup plans.
