Need Advice - I'm having second thoughts on location

Yes, the ladies here are right; it's YOUR day. While your Mom is right about keeping the expenses down and spulging on the honeymoon - it's your memories and you don't have to feel guilty about your choices.

You will make the right decisions!

I hear you.. My fiance and I chose one of the most expensive resorts in Punta Cana. We knew from the beginning that people would complain and that not everyone could come but we decided as a couple that this was OUR wedding so we were going to pick a hotel WE wanted to go to. Not what we thought our guests would like or be able to afford.

I would stick to the plans.

I thin that's totally a personal choice. Try to picture your day in those various circumstances and see what's acceptable to you. 4 of my BM's couldn't come to JA for my wedding, but I decided that while I love them, I couldn't plan my day around them and have it here. I am SO glad I did cuz my wedding was exactly what I wanted even without them there. Don't get me wrong, it would've been better if they were there.

But I am trying to say that in trying to accommodate everyone else, don't lose sight of the fact that it is YOU and your FI's wedding and what you want is what matters most. Good luck deciding!

Good for you... sometimes we spend our whole lives being the "good daughter" the "good friend", the "good fiance/wife" and trying to please everyone - that we often lose sight of who "we" are. In the end, we sometimes have to do with what makes us happy. People can look at that as being selfish, but when we try to make others happy, we often make ourselves miserable. Enjoy your day and if what makes you happy is your wedding day in St. Lucia, then so be it.

Rory, that is sooooo true! And completely me! I really appreciate everyone's insight, it is so helpful.

I am always the "good" everything and think about everyone before myself. When we got engaged in May we originally wanted a destination wedding. Then people started expressing concerns (including my mother, her best friends (who are like family) and childhood friends) so we started to plan a wedding in Dallas.

Then my FI got accepted into an advanced program at his school which changed our wedding date. When we started rethinking the wedding we realized that we weren't planning the wedding of our dreams, we were planning the wedding for everyone else!

We spent 4 months planning that traditional wedding! Because I was trying to be the "Good Girl" we wasted 4 months we could've spent planning the wedding we really wanted. Now we are trying to get details and things together, and I guess we started rethinking our location because of the cost to our guests. I really need to learn how to tune all that out and focus on what I and my Fiance' truly want.

This really is one of the only times that I can be justifiably selfish and I need to take full advantage!

st. lucia all the way! this is YOUR wedding. you dont want to regret SETTLING later on just to accomodate to people's needs. if people want to come, they will fork out the cash regardless of the cost. its their vacation too =)

every destination wedding comes with a price. families and friends all cant go. you knew this when you decided to have a destination wedding.

if you feel like you need your family and friends to celebrate with you. then do a reception when you get home. realistically speaking... even if you have your wedding at home... most people come to the reception only anyways. so have your ceremony in st. lucia and have a grand reception at home for your guests =)

Yep def not the only one in that boat. Everyone else wants us to havae it here so they can go, but we told them to forget it and don't want to hear anymore whining. Either come to Jamaica to see us get hitched, or stay at home in April when the weather is cold and shitty and you wished you had actually come to Jamaica!! Be selfish!! Its YOUR weddding. Everyone else has already had their wedding, so telll them to get over it.
