My ER is by Scott Kay has a "vintage" feel. You may want to try checking out his website ScottKay.com and look through the wedding bands. I'd add some pictures to this post...but I haven't figured out how to do that yet without making it an attachment.

 

I'm in the same boat as you with my FI ring. He also is a cop and has been warned about wearing a wedding ring while working. I was a little annoyed at first, but I do understand. Something about being in the back of a squad car in handcuffs, when they see a ring they cannot seem to help themselves from making obscence comments about their arresting officer's wife/family. I'd rather my FI not wear the ring while he works, than end up on the wrong side of the law when he really snaps on one of them. One of the many sacrifices of a "blue" wife At least your FI is a srgt.... and maybe has more "regular" hours.

I think one of the great things about a plain band is that you can mix and match with any kind of WB. My BF has a solitaire ER with plain band and added two etched WBs with paver diamonds (one under the ER and one above). Now the whole ring has an "antique" feel. I know it is more $ when you're talking 2 WBs, but it's something to think about!

Ps. It is awful to say this but I kind of want a cheap ring for FI. He hates jewelery so I know he just complain when he is wearing one.

One of our GM is from his dept., and a few others are planning on coming down. Our "hometown" reception will actually be in their jurisdiction, so I'm sure we'll have a lot of on-duty guys stop by and give some of the guests a scare

I think we'll go with something basic for his WB. I like the darker metals that are scratch resistant. Or..maybe we'll have his father's ring sized to fit. It is just a plain, gold band, but for as much as he'd have it on, it probably would be fine. His father, a long-time sheriff, passed a few years ago... so it might also be a nice tribute. I know his mother would love to see him with his dad's ring.

I second the titanium idea for your FI's band. You may want to also think about white gold, and I'm pretty sure a plain gold band in white gold will only be 150-350 dollars, maybe less depending on style, width and designer. For a guy, I personally would stay away from silver since it's a softer metal and can scratch easily. It also requires more cleaning if it's not worn on a regular basis. It does get a nice patina with age though for both of the above reasons and if that appeals to you then it might be an extremely affordable option.

Thanks Susan, I was actually considering doing this! I love the look of one on top and one on the bottom! I looked at some and the prices actually weren't that bad, so it wouldn't be ridiculous to buy two. Of course, when I told steve I wanted two wedding bands, I thought he was going to fall out of his chair!!
