Has anyone tried Crossfit?

Hi, has anyone tried Crossfit? I am trying it tomorrow with my FI who found out about it from work friends. Apparently a lot of firefighters do it. Anyways, I've found things here and there on the internet-- that basically it is some intense training but then I'll come across these sites that say people have died from it. Well, I probably won't hear back before I try it so I will give an update but wanted to see if anyone else has tried it. Thanks!

Well, that is great that your DH loves it! I just hope I can hack it, it sounds hard but I like training hard-- I just need a reason to. It has been A LONG TIME since I have trained intensely but I really need it. I was a pole vaulter in junior college and trained so freakin hard it kind of burnt me out. Time to get back on the saddle!!

Samantha!! I just started doing crossfit... as a fellow former track and field athlete (heptathlon) I think you will love it! I am so sore but I love how short and intense the workouts are. It takes a little digging but the website (crossfit.com) has modified version of most of the exercises. There is also crossfitendurance.com that I like also. I plan on eventually doing both but for now am trying to alternate between the regular crossfit workout of the day and the crossfit endurance workout of the day. I eventually want to do triathlons or adventure racing, which is why I like the crossfit endurance.

Let us know how it goes!

-Kate- Why don't you just go to the crossfit website and do the workout of the day on your own?

Hi ladies, I have done crossfit off and on, I really like some of the work outs (some not so much) so I just do my own versions. I had no idea how to do thrusters, deadlifts etc - it's fun and I am very sore after. Since I started I now can do a few unassisted chin ups - and that's big for me. I think you will like it, I wish I had other females to do it with - I just do it at a regular gym and people look at me funny haha. Good luck and have fun!

Kate, this made me laugh. I've never heard such a collective gasp by the females in the movie audience when the Spartan soldiers walked on screen. Gerard Butler .... *drool* .. wha?

Oh right, crossfit. I've been doing it for about a month now with more consistent results than i've had going to the gym 4x/week. You can definitely work to your ability, and push yourself hard enough without maxing out. I love it because it's varied, so it's not line droning out on the elliptical for 30 minutes. The trainer i use lets me bring my own music if i want, so it definitely keeps it fresh.

Hope you enjoyed your first session!

My FI started doing it 6 days a week about 3 weeks ago and loves it. He wants me to start but I am super un-athletic so I am afraid I might have an asthma attack just walking through the door. I did promise FI that I would give it a try though. (And probably walk out crying.)
