Registering Efficiently :)

Recommended Posts

I am actually really looking forward to registering. FI and I have pretty much the same tastes in most things and we both love to shop. I am a little less than 9 months away, so I am not really ready to register yet...but I figure it might be good to do it before Christmas.

But since I am thinking about it now (I always seem to be thinking about my wedding/married life...I'm sure I'm not the only one)...

Of the people who have already done this...did you do anything in preparation of going to the stores...like make a list of things you need/don't need...or did you just go and scan everything you liked at the store?

I like to be prepared (obviously) and I would like to be prepared ahead of time since it will end up just being on a whim with FI when we decide to go (he is not much of a planner...just goes with the flow).

Thanks for any advice :)

Bed Bath and Beyond, Target and Kohls all have lists of what you should register for. I printed them out and went through them and crossed off things we dont need and then just wrote on the back a few things that werent on the list that we do need. they lists really help, they also give you recommended quantites to register for.

danielle is right. but honestly, i would wait until after christmas if i were you - for 2 reasons. 1) the merchandise drastically changes at places like create & barrel, pottery barn, bed bath & beyond etc etc when the seasons change. so half the stuff you register for may not be available by the time people start buying you gifts (and they will wait until the last minute - the week before the shower and wedding to buy them) so you dont want to end up having to go back in to pick new stuff because the merchandise you originally picked is no longer available. and 2) because the stores will be substantially less crowded after the holidays. usually around february, all the stores start doing bridal registry party events where they close down the store in the evening or on a weekend morning to regular customers and you register in advance to get in and register with other couples. it's a lot less stressful than trying to register with a bajillion other regular customers around you, and the sales staffs are much more attentive with you while you're registering if they arent responsible for 20 other things at once. KWIM?

Thank you both. The only reason I thought to do it before Christmas is because someone mentioned that people like to give gifts for Christmas off your registry.

We honestly don't need much, but I know people will want to give us stuff and it would just be easier to register.

Since most stores have online registration, we just looked at items that we wanted to touch and feel (eg weight of silverware and china, texture of linens, etc) at the store. Then we did everything else online. BB&B was huge and it was easier to sort and go through everything online. Have fun registering!
