RIU MONTEGO BAY - reception question

Recommended Posts

Hello RMB brides,

I've been reading LOTS of posts and I just need some clarification. When we booked our trip we confirmed out wedding date and time immediately through our TA. We were told that we needed two working days on the resort not including our arrival day, before our wedding. We are arriving on Saturday, April 11th, so we figured our earliest day to get married was the Wednesday the 15th making Monday and Tuesday our 2 days on the resort before the wedding. Now, as I think about it I realize that Monday is possibly a holiday since it's Easter Monday and I don't know if that gives enough time to be on the resort. If they confirmed the wedding date does that mean they checked on all that or should I contact them. My TA is away for another 1.5 weeks so I thought I'd put that question out on this forum to see what you think.

Also, I was told that I would be contacted 2 months before my wedding to decide on flowers, reception, etc. but I'm seeing that some people at the ROR at least have booked way ahead of time. Has anyone from RMB had the chance to book all this stuff or did you get the same message as I did?

Thanks ahead of time for all your help and hopefully calming my nerves!

The law in Jamaica actually states 24 hours...not 2 days. The Riu is the one imposing the 2nd day. I actually arrive on the 26th and am getting married on the 28th. They had no problem booking the time even though I don't really follow the 2 day Riu rule. I would of had to wait until the 2nd if I hadn't gotten the 28th...so I was really happy when I was able to book the day I wanted. If you have your confirmation, you should be good to go. I might be mistaken, but I think that they take so long getting your confirmation back to you because they are making sure the Judge is available to do the ceremony.

As for stuff at the ROR...I think they are just booking the disco and reception room ealry. I'm pretty sure they don't do things like flowers too far in advance. You can always e-mail Keneika before your TA gets back if you think you want to reserve the disco early.

  • 3 weeks later...

I booked my wedding way back in May, before the resort opened...so maybe that is how I was able to slip it through. When I filled out the online application it wouldn't let me choose the 28th as an option (because of the 2 day rule), so I just added a note to the booking request about the 28th. I got an e-mail back from Arlett Santos letting me know there was a spot on the 28th. (I did state in my app that I knew the law was 24hrs). I took it and finialized the confirmation.

My TA was ready to do battle for me...but I ended up not needing it.

Maybe Kenieka is more strict on the rules than the person I e-mailed w/ before the resort opened.

I'm so envious you got around the rule. I just looked at my confirmation emails to see who it was. It was Diana Guzman from the sales department in July, who said it didn't matter we had to be there a total of 3 days before (day of arrival and 2 days before ceremony) to be able to do it.

I am trying not to think to much about it. Because of school and the other dates they had available our options were june 24(my sisters wedding anniversary), july 3 or september as our wedding date. I feel bad we are getting married on a holiday weekend in another country, but there was no question about this place being our resort. We loved it and it had everything we wanted.

We were going to stay 9 nights no matter what, but I wanted to get there and get the wedding over with, not like over with, but I want to get there get married and then enjoy my honeymoon with our guests. I felt because of this stupid rule I am going to be there 3 days with the wedding not happening. I am not going to be able to fully relax until its over. Ya know what I mean??

That's why I was worried too since we get there on Saturday and are getting married on Wednesday...I didn't want it to get pushed to Thursday since Easter is a holiday!!!

I think we'll just have to enjoy the trip and try to relax about the wedding stuff. I think once I'm there I'll be able to relax and try to forget about the events to come.

Trina, I think it's a good idea to get married over the holiday. Allot of people will have the extra day off and won't have to use a vacation day to attend your wedding. Plus in the future you will have a holiday weekend (and a great one) to celbrate your anniversary.

I used similar thinking when I picked our date...I thought how cool it is that every 4 years we will have an extra day to celebrate our anniv!bunny_4.gif
