spray tan vs tanning bed????

I've used this with no problems. I liked it better than the spray and doesn't smell bad like some of the sprays.

you should do the airbrush tanning.. that'll be the best.. that's what they do in 'sunset tans' on E! anyway, not sure if there's beach bum where you are but they offer it & i don't think it's too expensive.. maybe $30 or so.

I'm going to play devils advocate here...

 

Technically speaking, there is no evidence that a "base tan" will prevent you from burning, or otherwise protect your skin.

 

I am the sunscreen queen, and openly encourage everyone to get a very light weight, long sleeve tunic and a cute wide-brimmed hat that you can wear to prevent lines.

 

A base tan will help hide the lines, but it does not protect your skin.

I have very pale skin (read: I'm white as a ghost). When I go down South I usually do a few tanning sessions (never get to stay more than 7-8 minutes). That usually protects me from getting a really bad ass sunburn. I have never tried the spray tan so I cannot comment on that.

 

For me, doing a few tanning sessions works well.

White is the new tan, I'm telling you No matter what you do you should always put lots of sunscreen when you go outside. You'll be thankful when you are older and don't have skin cancer like all the young girls I see that tan 5 times a week.

Here's a pretty big lesson learned about the sun from my wedding:

 

I have fair complexion. I went tanning 2x/week for a month before our wedding to try and develop a good 'base tan', thinking that I wouldn't burn as easily in Mexico (wearing SPF 30 the entire time).

 

The day before the wedding (6 days into our trip, with a very nice tan), I went on a 6-hour deep sea fishing trip. Covered in sunscreen and wearing a long sleeved swimsuit coverup (looks like a sheer dress). I burned right through the swimsuit coverup because the sun was so hot. I ended up with a painful shoulder that looked like someone had poured acid all over it, and had to hide it in all of my wedding photos (thankfully Citlalli Rico helped make sure that my shoulder was hidden, and my pictures turned out great)!

 

I definitely recommend wearing sunscreen underneath your swimsuit coverups!

I always do a combo of tanning bed and spray tan before going away. You get darker with less sessions ..... and skin damage!

I use beds BUT if you do the spray tan make sure it is the airbrush kind. My DH decided to get sprayed before we left and he went into this huge booth thing that sprays you down. He was orange all over his ankles knees and elbows. It was pretty horrible. It came off fast once we were swimming a lot but he freaked out lmao! Poor thing.

i have got the WORST tan lines right now ... a short-sleeve line (only on my left arm!), and multiple different lines all over my chest and shoulders from different bathing suits. i spent way more time outdoors this summer than i have in years, thus the lines. any recommendations of how to successfully fade them away? spray vs. tanning bed on this?

 

i already bought 2 strapless swimsuits for my trip to mexico, as we are getting married legally so we needed to be there for days beforehand. that should help with the advent of new lines, but how do i get rid of these old ones? they are very strong (and haphazard)!

 

oh and just because no one else noted it ... keep in mind that if you do sunless tanner, a spray tan, or airbrush tan that while you may *look* tan, you actually are NOT, and are no better protected than on your whitest day!

i used to work at a gym that had a tanning bed so I had to get certified. tanning beds do not provide any protection from burning.

 

i do find that if I lay out in moderation & get some color I won't burn as easily.
