DREAMS PUERTO VALLARTA "thread"

I'm not sure, but I know that you are supposed to take the airport sanctioned taxis and these are more expensive (so it'll cost more to get to the hotel than it would be to go from the hotel to the airport). However, if you cross the street once you get out of the airport (there is a pedestrian walkway) there are regular taxis for normal fare. So depending on how much stuff you have with you, you can get a cheaper deal.

Is anyone familiar with the bars on property. Like Baracuda bar. Here is my situation. We are wanting to save a little money and was thinking instead of a formal Welcome Reception we would just designate a bar by the beach and tell everyone to come there once they check in. Do kind of a sunset welcome party, from 6-9pm. I know you can coordinate something with the hotel but I believe it is 20pp. Ouch...

Has anyone done this there?

Does anyone have suggestions to what bar they would recommend us telling our guests to meet at between those times? I would like to face the ocean so they can see the sunset?

Any feedback or suggestions....

Thanks in advance

yeah that is a good idea Kathy - and $20 is ridiculous when it is already AI. I want to do the same thing. I'm not sure about the bars near the water though - Seaside Grill is right by the water, right? I think it is just a restaurant though, but could be wrong.

I'd like to know a bit more about the bars on the property too...

As far as the $20 pp for a private function, I think that covers the costs of the set-ups, wait staff/bartender, linens, etc... I just received a quote from a place here in Edmonton for a private cocktail party and the room rental and set up for a cocktail party (this does not include linen, decor, waiters/bartenders, food, drink, music, etc) is $2500!! All you get is a room, round plain tables and plain chairs. Everything else is additional.

We leave in 16 sleeps (who's counting?!?) and are back on March 9. I promise to post a long and detailed review when I return (we are having our wedding at Dreams and plan to do a impromptu cocktail get together at the resort as well).

Jen-

I am so excited for you..... I can't believe the time is here.

If you could in middle of all your craziness, take pictures of the bars there you would rock.

I want it to be a small bar kind of intimate, but no frills. Everyone will be coming to the party at different times based on when they landed and if they are tired. So I want it to be very chill but also a nice location to watch the sunset....

I don't think you are able to book a reservation at a restaurant for that many people and sit for 3 hours. Which is also what I don't want.

Jenn I wish you the best on everything. I can't wait to see pictures.

One last thing where are you getting your hair and make up done. I would love to know more about that.

I am doing a trial at Dreams and one at Blu in town. This is probably the area I am most picky about.

So far all the pictures I have seen of brides that used the Dreams salon, had a lot of make-up on that didn't look styled, meaning I am not afraid of dramatic eyes, with extended lashes I just want to look like I stepped away from the Chanel counter at Saks. And hair styles I feel I could do myself. I really want to have great make-up and still look like myself without it being caked on and want my hair to rock..... Wow doesn't every bride want that.

can't wait for your review.

Enjoy every minute of it

The bar by the seaside grill is really small -- maybe seats 12 people at most and often people who are waiting for tables at the restaurant will be sitting there. The best bar to have a meet up at is really the lobby bar (i don't know if that's the official name but it describes it perfectly). Not only do they have plenty of tables that they let you move around (and the view is overlooking the ocean), but they often have live music and if you situate yourself properly within the bar you can see the front desk so you can keep an eye out for your guests as they arrive.

We designated the lobby bar as our nightly meet up spot after dinners and always had a good time. It's not very big at all, but we always managed to find all the tables and chairs we needed. Have fun!
