Nayarit and Jalisco: Official U.S. government employees are prohibited from traveling to Colotlan, Jalisco, and Yahualica, Jalisco, both near the Zacatecas border, because of an increasingly volatile security situation. Concerns include roadblocks placed by individuals posing as police or military personnel and recent gun battles between rival TCOs involving automatic weapons. You should defer non-essential travel to these cities. In addition, the border areas between Jalisco state and the states of Zacatecas and Michoacán, as well as southern Nayarit state including the city of Tepic, have been sites of violence and crime involving TCOs. You should exercise extreme caution when traveling in these areas. Due to recent TCO-mounted road blockades between the Guadalajara airport and the Guadalajara metropolitan areas, U.S. government employees are only authorized to travel between Guadalajara and the Guadalajara Airport during daylight hours.

But really... reassure your guests that Dreams PV and all the resorts are secure.  We were also planning on going downtown PV to bar hop... and we probably still will.  Violence happens everywhere... you just have to be aware.

Scary though!!!

Zacatecas is around 10hrs away from Pto Vallarta, Guadalajara is like 5:30hrs away and Tepic wich would be the closest is around 4:30hrs away...!!

Question--our wedding and reception are on Seaside Beach.  I have been to weddings before where the bride placed a basket of beauty products in the ladies bathroom for her guests to use throughout the evening (like hairspray, lotion, floss, tissues, etc.).  I'd like to do this as well, but I have no idea where the ladies' room is in relation to Seaside Beach, and if this would really work (i.e., would other guests leave the basket alone?).  Thoughts?

Also, are anyone's guests getting upset about the new US State Dept. Travel Warning posted 4/22?  I've received a couple of emails from concerned guests, and I'm not sure what to tell them.  We had been planning to do a pub crawl downtown after our bonfire on Thursday, but now maybe that's not such a good idea.

not sure what seaside beach is, but if it's in front of oceana, or by the las palmas, then there is a bathroom right there. i think it has one stall, mayyyyybe two, and is still available to the public. if seaside beach is in front of seaside grill, then i have no clue where the bathroom is, but i would assume that since it's near a bunch of restaurants, there would be a lot more traffic.

My wedding is May 21st and it is taking place at Seaside Beach as well. The location is in front of Seaside Restaurant so on the left side of the resort if you are looking at the water. I was actually thinking about putting toiletry items in the bathrooms as well but I don't know where the closest restroom is either. My recollection is that there is a bathroom near the middle of the beach but I'm not sure how close that would be to where the wedding is taking place. If anyone has more insight on this I also would love to know the answer!

There is a one stall washroom just before the entrance to the Seaside Grill. This is the one we used. It is probably only used by the patrons of the grill. Maybe put a note on the basket that the products are for the wedding guests and hopefully most people will respect it...

I read the warning I do not think it is for the Puerto Vallarta Area, I think it is further north.  There is a Navy and Army base by the hotel zone in Puerto Vallarta, and don't think you should have any problems.  We are planning on taking all of our guests to Andale's on Olas Atlas and we will stick with that plan.  Hope this helps to alleviate some of your fears, I know some of my guests were apprehensive also.  I can tell you that a friend of my sister's visits Puerto Vallarta 4 times a year and has not had a problem.  We will be arriving next Friday, with our guests following on Saturday.  My FI and I are going into town on Saturday to have lunch at a little place we discovered in town the last time we were there.  Good Luck!

I put some toiletries in the bathroom near Las Palmas. It is open to the public, but I noticed that not many people use the bathrooms at the restaurants at night so I wouldn't worry about random people taking them. It was a nice touch that several of my guests commented on. Here are some pics. If you have room in your budget and luggage then go for it :)

As for the salon, it was pretty small. There is a room for 3 hair and makeup stations and then a smaller room for pedicures. I was the only one getting hair and makeup, but my un-bridesmaids did join in the fun. We went directly from brunch so we didn't have food there, but they did have mimosas. One of my girlfriends left a little early, stopped at the lobby bar and ordered champagne and some trays of food to be delivered to the room. The timing was perfect.

Excuse the awful pictures, but I pulled out the ones from the salon:

autojo - thanks for all the information and pictures! I'm getting married at Dreams in November and this was super helpful! Now I definitely want to put together some toiletries for the bathrooms near Las Palmas. I especially found the picture frames you put in the bathrooms to be super cute/funny!
