Uh-oh My FSIL is FLIPPING

I am not a mom either, but I do have a 6 yr old sister and 4 yr old brother who have been flying since birth. My stepmom usually just buys them some new toys and packs them in their carry on and doesn't let them see the toys until they get on the plane to occupy them during the flight. My cousin will also be bringing an almost 2 yr old and a 6 month old to Mexico, and they were initially on a direct flight that got canceled and are now on a connecting flight. They weren't thrilled about having a connecting flight, but they have no choice (they got their tickets with miles on American, and the only directs were on United). There main concern at that point was they didn't want to get the kids up too early and throw off their sleep schedule. They take off around 9 something, and the layover is about an hour and they will have to switch planes. Maybe she is just nervous if the kid hasn't flown before, maybe once she calms down she'll be fine.

I haven't heard from her today. And when fi talked to her yesterday she basically told him that she probably wont be going. I had talked to her after that by email and she didnt say anything about canceling but she did say she would talk to her hubby that night to decide what they wanted to do.

I'm hoping she has calmed down and decided that it wont be as bad as she thinks. Then i can give her some of your suggestions. Thanks girls!

I definately want her to go. I'm really good friends with her, she's how i met fi. But she is the type that flips when she doesn't get her way. I'm kind of used to it because fi gets like this too sometimes. She's been a lot of help with the wedding and other things, she's always there when i need her. But she's just over reacting about the flight situation, I think partly because she's over protective with her son.

If she decides not to go, I'm going to try not to be too upset about it. But there's a chance I will hold a grudge and i know fi will be PISSED! I would feel awful for fi because it's his only sibling and they are really close.

So sorry to hear you're going through this. Just know you're not the only one! :) We all encountered family issues during wedding planning. Like I hear many of the girls say: weddings bring out the worse side of people! sad.gif

Well, maybe if you called and told her how important it is for you and FI that she and her family is there during your very very special day and that you're willing to help out/accomodate her to make it happen, she will realize what a censored.gif she's being and realize that it's not about her but about you, her friend, and FI, her brother! But, then again she could be like my SIL and only care about herself and no one else around! Just be ready for that and remember that us BDW girls are here for you! smile03.gif

Good luck Danielle! There are so many things you don't have control over such as changing flight routes. Another one of those things is how the baby will react to being on a plane. I mean, the kid can hate it from the very beginning and be fussy the entire trip! Or he will adjust easily. Regardless, it's hard to tell w/o actually getting on the plane. In which case, a 30 min layover might not make a big difference afterall!
