I already have guests who are taking it upon themselves to make arrangements for our wedding. Mainly my sister. She purchased a Timeshare recently and is using it for my wedding. I'm kind of peeved because nobody bothered to talk to me about anything beforehand. The resort we're getting married at charges a $70 day pass fee to all non-guests the day of the wedding. We simply can't afford an additional $70 for guests who don't stay at the resort, I mean we're paying for 7 peoples airfare and accommodations! We simply can't spend more than we have budgeted. So now we're looking at 4 people who have outside accommodations and probably more.

We chose our resort because it has a great rating, and was reasonable. And we loved their wedding package and featured.

So my question is how can I word this on my STD's and website about the day pass fee without coming across all "you need to pay even more to come to my wedding or you won't be allowed on property!"

Ohh and yes, I notice after I submit the tread I said working, instead of wording.

wow that sucks...no one realizes how much research and how organized we are when we choose our resorts. Our room is free when our guest stay at our resort and the more rooms the longer stay we receive, yeah it sounds cheap but it is just extra money we can put towards the wedding and add a excursion for everyone so I understand how you feel about the extra expense... You seem to going beyond your duties already paying for transportation and rooms for some guests...If you have a wedding website I would post it on there so it doesn't come off to in your face but say something like "You will be charged $70 if you are not a guest at the blah blah resort"

What resort are you getting married at?

The Excellence Riviera Cancun.

We're paying for our parents (both sets), ourselves (which we don't get a discount on), and our photographer. I know people are going to expect us to pay the $70 for them to get in our act all "we didn't know about it!" I don't think it's unreasonable to ask them to pay. Especially since when you divide our package price by our guests we're paying close to $120 a person, already.

This is so true! They just assume that you just randomly chose somewhere. We all took a lot of time and effort to determine where we get married. In the back of our minds is the cost. Money is always the bottom line, and everyone just assumes that we are selfish people with money to burn. I'm finding in this process that it will be family and close friends who will always break your heart.

If it were me...I'd honestly put a separate sheet of paper with the invites stating" We're so thrilled that you'll be here to celebrate our union, but please note that if you book off site the resort will be charging a $70 day pass for you to attend. I'd also put this note on your wedsite. You have to be explicitly clear with your guests that if they choose to stay off site they will be adding an additional $70 (DayPass) to their overall costs, to attend your wedding at the resort.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this. Good luck!

I had the same problem. We picked a hotel that was ok for kids, because FI's BM has 3. So we picked dreams even thought I wouldn't have been my choice.

Guest what they said it was 2 expensive so wouldn't be staying there lol!!! Luckily FI told them specifically if you don't stay there we aren't paying for your day pass and that is going to be another $250.

We have told everyone that we will NOT be responsible for the day passes and everyone has said fine. If you make it clear its their choice.

My FI father has a timeshare in Cancun and has invited his whole side of the family to stay with him. I told my FI to make sure he explains to them that they'll have to pay $150.00 to attend the wedding if they stay off-site (Excellence Playa Mujeres day pass fee).

As far as I'm concerned if people are making other arrangements to save so much money, then they can pay for the day pass out of their own pocket.

That really sucks! I have never heard of that! You probably should call the people who already have made other arrangements and explain to them the situation. Tell them that you just cannot afford to pay that extra fee and it will be added to the cost of their trip. As far as the website and STDs however you are designing them but an asterisk at the bottom and state that if you choose to make arrangement outside of the resort you will be charged a $70 day pass fee for the day of the wedding. This way everyone will know what the total cost will be when planning their trip. Good Luck!

First of all, this is yor wedding, and anyone with a mind *should* know that it is bad taste to "assume" you guys are going to pay for their day pass. There is wedding etiqutte that goes unspoken and this is one of them. That really bites that they would choose another location, but you can't control everyone.

I would not put any wording on the STD's - I don't think it would be approapriate due to the small group that would be the target of this information. I would simply call them and let them know or if you have a website, definitely indicate it on there.

I think you are going to have to put this somewhere in the STD. Even if you call and tell people you have the guy who gets there and goes "you never told us that". It is always easier to put it in writing so people can refer back to it.

Hopefully by doing that it will encourage more people to book with your TA. As the time gets closer and the number of people who have not booked with your TA get smaller, you can double check and call each of them.

I like the way this is worded. You might want to put some marketing spin. Instead of saying it so straight out, turn it around as a positive thing. Something like for everyone staying with us at the Excellence you will be saving some money by not having to buy a day pass (usually $70).
