When should I go in for a first fitting?

Recommended Posts

My dress comes in Oct. 3rd, and I am taking my dress somewhere else to get altered....I am hoping that all that needs to be done is to shorten it and get the train bustled up or get rid of it all together....

Just wondering when everyone went in for their first fitting?! I plan on losing some weight, so I dont want to go in too early, but dont want to go in too late!

Your wedding is in April, so you have plenty of time! I would talk to your alterations person on how long they will need. My first fitting was about 2 months before my wedding. My second fitting was about a month before the wedding. I had lost more weight, so they took it in again, but told me to stop dieting and try to just maintain from that point on. Final fitting and pickup were 5 days before we left. Hope that helps!

I would recommend taking it to the seamstress to see how much work will actually need to be done. My wedding is in Oct. and my first fitting was Aug.9 and I go for my second one in a week.

You have lots of time-but if you'd feel more comfortable, take it to the seamstress and see what she has to say.

yes, call the alteration place FIRST!! I really wanted to get my dress altered at this one place that has a really good reputation for doing fantastic work so I waited 2 months before my wedding to call and they were booked for months. Needless to say I had to go somewhere else. Just call them for advice :)
