This happened to me at work.  Same thing prongs on the stone but it's not separate from the rest of the ring.

I've only had it for 8 months.  Were the jewelers able to fix your ring?

Im sorry to hear that Good thing is you can fix it! My Aunt last year lost her diamond she has had for over 25 years...I can't imagine! Im sure it will be perfect as soon as they fix it!
