Hi guys!

This has been a crazy week for my FI and I!

Earlier this year his father was diagnosed with ALS. They gave him 2 years max to live.

Last week on Monday my FI had surgery! Everything was well. He was fully recovered by Thursday.

Thursday night we got a call from his family saying that his Dad was in Intensive Care. Saturday morning FFIL died.

This has been extremely hard on my FI but especially because while his father was ill he would not visit him often. He said it was too hard. Plus growing up his Dad divorced his mom when he was in 3rd grade (after his Dad finished medical school) and FI and his mom struggled while his father remarried (stepmom is a doctor) and payed $200/month child support. FI mom never took his Dad to court. She just thought if he wanted to pay $200 then that would be that & she worked 2-3 jobs to support her and her son.

His Dad had no movement in his entire body. He couldn't talk. They fed him through a feeding tube. Yet his mind was fully aware of what was going on.

HIS DAD WAS A 55 YEAR OLD DOCTOR WHO TOOK GREAT CARE OF HIMSELF!!!!!

Tonight is the viewing and tomorrow morning is the funeral.

FI is taking this very hard. Lots of regrets for not spending time with his Dad when he had the chance. Regrets for not talking to his Dad & "fixing" things.

To anyone who may be in a similar situation with a loved one or a friend, nows the time to rekindle your relationship. One day (s)he may not be here.

I don't want to preach to you guys, but seriously "forgiveness" makes a world of difference!

I am extremely sorry for you and your FI sad.gif When my great grandpa died last yea (whom I was EXTREMELY close with, we each put something in the casket that we wanted him to be able to "take with him." I wrote him a letter and put it in his suit pocket. Letter's can really help you get closure after a death. He could write down everything he wanted to say in Life, but never had the chance. Again, I am so very sorry for you loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
