Canadians Getting Married in Cuba - Important!!!

I've e-mailed the Cuba Consulate and received the following e-mail. According to them if you have been marriied more than two years to need an Affidavit of Single Status as well!!!!

Read carefully the information below.

 

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED TO GET MRRIED IN CUBA

 

 

IF YOU ARE GETTING MARRIED TO A CUBAN CITIZEN:

 

IF YOU ARE SINGLE: Birth Certificate, Affidavit of Single Status.

 

IF YOU ARE DIVORCED: Birth Certificate, Divorce Certificate

 

IF YOU ARE WIDOWER: Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate and Death Certificate

 

 

If you are divorced and your divorce took effect more than two years ago, you also need an Affidavit of Single Status stating that since you got divorce you’re not remarried again.

 

 

If you weren’t born in Canada you have to obtain a letter from the Consulate or Embassy of your country of birth stating that your birth certificate was issued according to the regulations of the government and that the documents can be considered valid.

 

 

I am also inform you that if you got married in Cuba and got divorce in Canada it is not enough to present a Divorce Certificate from Canada, you have to register your divorce in front of the Cuban authorities. If this is your case please let us know to inform you how to proceed.

 

 

 

Your name in your Birth Certificate has to match with your name in the rest of the documents. If not an Affidavit is required to prove you are one and the same person.

 

 

 

IF YOU ARE GETTING MARRIED TO A CANADIAN CITIZEN OR A PERSON WHO’S NOT CUBAN:

 

IF YOU ARE SINGLE: Valid Passport

 

IF YOU ARE DIVORCED: Passport, Divorce Certificate

 

IF YOU ARE WIDOWER: Passport, Marriage Certificate and Death Certificate

 

 

Passports don’t have to be translated or legalized.

HOW TO PREPARE THE DOCUMENTS:

 

Take the originals to a Public Notary and get CERTIFIED COPIES of the documents stating that the documents are true and valid copies of the originals issued by competent authorities in the Province.

 

 

 

Same Documents have to be Officially Translated into Spanish. This should include a Statutory Declaration of the Translator signed by the Public Notary.

 

 

 

LEGALIZATION OF DOCUMENTS:

 

The process of legalizations takes from 10 to 15 days.

 

 

 

The fee for legalizations is $ 160.00 CAD per document (each document in English and each document in Spanish as a result of the translation)

 

Translations fee is $ 48.00 CAD, per page.

 

All services requested by mail must include a non-personal fee of $ 32.00 CAD and a pre-paid envelope to send you back the documents once legalized.

 

Rush fee is $ 32.00 CAD per documents; you will have the documents within 3 days.

Just an FYI, for those who have never been married before, you don't have to do anything, bring your passport and birth certificate and fill out the forms and that is all, they do the rest there. And when you get your marriage certificate, it does NOT need to be translated into English, so do not waste your money. It was all so easy it was crazy, easier than getting married here.

Hi all,

 

Has any of this information changed regarding documentation required? We have been getting different information from various sources and have not heard back from the Cuban Embassy.

 

We are both Canadian citizens and neither has been married before.

 

Can anyone help us out?

Nothing has changed...DH and I had never been married before and all we needed were our passports. We brought our birth certificates just in case but were not asked for them. Super easy!

Nope, nothing has changed as far as I know... as of a few weeks ago. If neither of you has been married before, all you need is your passports and birth certificates, along with a form the resort will get you to fill out.

 

My fiance is divorced, so we had to get his divorce certificate translated to Spanish and legalized. Thankfully we have it all taken care of now, so we don't have to worry about it later on.

 

I found it hard to get a hold of anyone at the Cuban Embassy in Montreal (which is the one we had to deal with). They kept calling and emailing in French which was pretty frustrating. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your help. Just to confirm, nothing has to be translated, notarized, legalized (not even our passport)

Nope... no translation!

 

You will need to complete a package from your resort wedding coordinator and fax it there three weeks before the wedding. Your coordinator will ensure that this is all done.
