we just booked our honeymoon flights to Hawaii - 5 days in Kauai, 5 days on the Big Island. we're trying to figure out which resorts/hotels to book for our stay and have been on tripadvisor but didn't find it very helpful...so wondering where others are staying...

we're planning to do a lot of hiking and water sports, but we'll have a car on both islands so doesn't really matter where we stay...

any recos?

Hey!

We are going to Big Island for 1 week - staying the entire time at Kona Village Resort | Hawaii Hotels | Hawaii Resorts - this is also where our guests will be staying and our wedding will be (next Friday!!!!!).

we are then going to Kauai for 1 week for our honeymoon - we are staying at

Waimea Plantation Cottages for half of the week and at Kauai Vacation Rentals - Hale Makai Beach Cottages - Kauai Guide for the other half so that we can really explore Kauai and see both sides of the Island.

Another place i really like on BI is The Palms Cliff House Inn, A Romantic Inn 15 Min. from Hilo Town on the Big Island but this is in Hilo so quite a drive from the Kona Side.

also - here is a good site for BI activites!

Hawaii Forest and Trail - Nature Adventures & Outfitting on the Big Island of Hawaii

Good Luck!

We are looking at staying at the Princeville resort in Kauai. I believe it is closed until April 2009 and then it is reopening as a St. Regis hotel. And it basically doubled in price so we may rethink it.

I would also welcome any suggestions people have!

You should really enjoy Kauai! We own a timeshare there on the south part of the island at Poipu called The Point at Poipu. The location is beautiful overlooking the ocean and in the one mainly sunny area on the island. The suites are very spacious and clean but a bit dated. If I were going on a honeymoon, my dream would be to stay the the Hyatt Regency in Poipu which is an absolutely beautiful hotel next door to the Point at Poipu. It has lovely grounds and beautiful pools but the red flag is usually up on the beach.

We have also stayed at the Kauai Coast Resort at the Beachboy at Kapaa which is a very nice, recently renovated hotel right on the beach. However, the weather is not as nice as Poipu.

As for the Big Island, we have stayed twice at the Royal Seacliff which is a lovely hotel located on the ocean and about a 10 minute drive to Kona. The weather in Kona is usuallly nice. Hawaiian royalty used to go there becasue of the neice weather. Royal Seacliff is a nice hotel but it has no restaurants, etc. It has two pools and a jacuzzi but the beach is very dangerous for swimming. The Seacliff includes one or two bedroom suites which are clean but look a bit worn. If you want a really luxurious hotel with lots of ammenities, then this hotel would not be what what you want. I hope this helps a bit.

Hi mmacrae!

I saw your post that said you own a timeshare at The Point at Poipu. I tried to send you a PM but couldn't so I'm writing it here. We just traded into The Point for Dec! We're so excited!!! Can you tell me more about the place? What stuff is there to do around there? What did you mean when you wrote the red flag is usually up at the beach? Is the beach in front of the Hyatt available for Point guests to use? Any info would be most helpful and appreciated! Thank you!!!!
