DR Flight Cost

Recommended Posts

I am a Newbie and do nto have a set date or set place that I will be having my wedding. I am currently exploring my options. That being said, I just compared flight cost and geezz the flights to DR are quite a bit more than other places. Did you guys have a lot of problems with flight costs? How do you guest feel about it? Do you know where I can find some better pricing? TIA!

The price of flights depends on where you and your guests are flying from.

I would suggest signing up with travelocity and other sites so that they email you when the price changes.

If you have more than 10 people traveling at the same time and from the same location you can get a group discount from many airlines. You can check this with a TA.

Many of our guests used travelocity for both airfare and hotel package.

Prices went up the longer we waited to book. We had people coming from the East Coast mostly (SC/NC/VA/MD/DC/NY/NJ) and one from Denver. The NY/NJ and MD/VA/DC flights were the most affordable (my parents traveled for $99 each way). But, gas prices have gone up significantly since then ...

Look into SpiritAr and USA3000 -- they are smaller airlines that gave my family the best rates.

DH and I paid $600 each and flew from CLT to PUJ non-stop on US Airways.

I started looking at flights to DR back in May, and the prices were significantly lower. Gas prices have made flight prices go up over all. In addition, most of the direct JFK-PUJ routes have been cut, so you're pretty likely to have a connection.

That being said, they've dropped in recent weeks. Part of it is that flights cost more to book in summer because of high gas prices. They also cost a bit more in the winter because of heating oil needs. We're planning on booking our flights in September or October, when we think prices will be the lowest.

Even if flights are a bit more expensive (which was not the case 6 months ago, DR was the cheapest), the cheaper lodging and resorts should make up the difference. Be sure to look at the prices overall, not just the airfare.

Also Kayak.com has a neat feature where you can see the pricing history of flights for your time frame and itinerary. Also Tuesday nights are a good time to look because it's when the airline sales go into effect.

Good luck!!
