Sarah, which Target candles did you get? Were they target brand? I always thought the cheapo candles burned funny and smoked.. I think I may want to investigate further.
The tall pillar candle is "room essentials" from Target. The candles I'm using for the wedding are from Hobby Lobby. I just realized I need to do a trial on that one too...here we go again!

I totally love this idea for my placecards - I think it is soooo pretty but my only concern is with the wind - I have heard people say that their candles didn't stay lit - Sarah, are you worried about that? I am debating this idea and the candles you get at Michaels.....what to do.....

The funny thing is that I have no intention of actually lighting these candles at the wedding. They are meant to be a favor that doubles as a placecard. I doubt anyone would actually burn them, they might not even take them home. After all, does anyone really want a candle with their name on it? But I just thought it was a different, cool idea that wouldn't bee too expensive or elaborate and would fit in with the DIY and color scheme requirements.

After I made them, however, I am thinking that large ones with the picture printed on them would be really cool maybe under some hurricane glass to protect it from wind. I may look into this further...

How did I manage to miss this thread for the last few days??

I love this idea. I want to do it with a few of my wedding pictures for the at home reception center pieces.

Did you say that you just printed on the tissue paper trimmed around the edge and then put it on the candle using an embossing heat gun? Is that all there is to it? They look great!

Yes, kinda. Printing on the tissue paper is tricky. I found the easiest way is to figure out about what size your image will print and cut out a piece of tissue paper approx this size. Tape the tissue paper to a piece of regular white printer paper and send it through the printer that way. The tissue paper has to be taped on very smooth and fairly tight or the printer will rip it. After it's printed, let it dry a few minutes and then cut the image out, cutting very close to the edges of the image.
I found two different ways to do it online. One way said just place the tissue on the candle and heat it with the heat gun. I didn't try this way.
The other directions I found said to cut out a piece of wax paper and wrap that all the way around the candle so you can hold it tightly in the back and heat the image and the wax paper. The wax comes off the paper and covers the image and also melts into the candle. If you get any drips, have a scrap paper under you so you can quickly roll the candle to smooth out the drips.
It was a little tricky at first, but by the time I did the second one I felt it was getting easier.

I tried burning my candle this weekend and in the amount of time they will be lit for my reception it did not reach the label and melted inside of the candle anyway...so I think I am safe with the label in case anyone else wanted to do that.
