I think you can have a moderator merge the two threads. Those options look nice, but anything other than my regular relaxed hair is just not going to be me. But I only care about it looking decent for the ceremony and pictures, the rest of the trip I don't care much. we are going on a thur. and the ceremony will be sat. so I may have to stay out of the water and then sun. get my hair cornrowed going straight back.

How did you wash your hair?? I have been wearing weaves for quite a while now, I wash my hair in the shower and it really helps to keep it from getting tangled. The hair I use is pretty expensive, but it's worth it because when I get my weaves re-done I can use the same hair. I order my hair from a company in California called Extensions Plus. Have you considered using the stylists at the resort? That was my initial plan but I didn't really want the hassle of wearing a weave, which is so not me, and not enjoying the beautiful water in Jamaica.

 

We arrive 3 days before the wedding and I just cant see me not in the water :.(

This was my second sew in and since I washed the first one at home, I figured it shouldn't be that hard. I'm seriously considering invisible braids with human hair now. I think that may be my best bet :.)

No, I'm a little picky on my hair handling so that's not an option. I would rather pay for her a ticket if I have to she is my close friend so she may just be coming anyway and again one of my BM's is pretty good with styling. I will wear my hair straight with a flower in it or get flexy rods before I go and then get them touched up before the ceremony if I have to, that should only require my ceremics and maybe a good blow dryer. But I feel you cause if I can get in the water and one of my girls just do my hair before the ceremony, that'll be the road I'm taking.

I'm wearing invisible braids because lace front wigs don't do well with water since they are glued (or that special hair tape) around the edges. If you don't blend the makeup right or if you sweat too much it comes up. The invisible braids look like strands of hair and can be styled anyway you want especially if you get straight hair. I'm going to Orlando on thursday to meet with the stylist and I may go ahead and get it done if I have time. if not I'll get it done on the 21st so that I have my hair the way I'll wear it in Jamaica during my fitting. I'll post pics once it's done and then you guys will have a better idea of what it(invisible braids) looks like.

I'm gonna jump in here..glad to see this thread resurrected. I was part of the other older one too from last year and we threw around some great tips!

 

I'm am a certified weaveologist (LMAO) from waaaay back in my college days. I do my own hair, because truth be told, my ass is too cheap to pay someone else for what I can learn to do myself, so I did.

 

There are a LOT of options for your wedding trip....and no reason to think you have to be stuck with one style or can't get it wet. You're gonna be on the beach...it would SUCK if you had to spend the whole time you should be enjoying yourself worried about high humidity or getting your hair wet. I refuse.

 

So here's my plans, right off the jump:

 

The flat iron is your best friend, so why would you leave your best friend at home? It is the most powerful styling tool EVER and can correct anything humidity or water does. Same with your blow dryer. I do not condone using either of these things everyday normally...but for one week on vacation, it will save your sanity and not do irrevocable damage.

 

POMADE. Yes, you heard it. Something else I normally don't use day to day, but when you're talking about high humidity and water you gotta think about SEALING THE HAIR SHAFT COMPLETELY. Nothing does that better than straight up pomade, and I mean the kind you normally see in the cheap shops that comes either green or blue. Hell, even straight Vaseline and I am serious. All hair grease is is petroleum jelly with conditioners added anyway. Grease your hair from root to tip with it, then blow dry and flat iron and it will last for at LEAST a couple of days without frizzing if you have a fairly fresh relaxer.

 

A wig isn't always a traditional wig. lol There are LOTS of new wigs these days that are lace front, and still under $100, lightweight and breathable. These are "quick weave" types of wigs, where they have the comb attachments both front and back and come in a HUGE variety of styles. THEY DO NOT HAVE TO BE GLUED IN FRONT! The front is meant to sit back just behind the hair line OR be glued. I wear mine just behind my natural hairline, and I'm talking maybe 1/4 inch. You just cut the excess lace off the front. The hair is normally synthetic, which gets a bad wrap for looking "fake" but there are some tricks to help with that as well. Synthetic hair has the benefit of being extremely lightweight, and the wefts of these wigs are spaced nicely so they are very breathable. I've worn them during summer months in the midwest, and you don't get a heck of a lot more humid than here.

 

To make a synthetic wig look more natural/less shiney all you have to do is sleep in it for a few nights. Thats right...sleep on it. Mess it up, toss it around and get it good and worn in. The shine lessens, the curls loosen and it looks beautifully natural. The synthetic lace front wigs run anywhere from $30-80...very affordable for a wedding style and the lace runs normally at least 2-3 inches into the wig so you can pull it back and look natural. I'm not a big fan of sew in weaves. The tracks are bulky out of necessity being literally tied to cornrows, and they tend not to lay very flat. If you have fine hair, they are an especially bad idea. For those of us blessed with thick hair, its easier to get away with..I am not, so I avoid it. Chignon's and other "tight" or "combed close to the head" styles don't do well with sew in weaves and even bonding is difficult to be made to look natural.

 

If your groom has a problem with "fake" hair, then ofcourse you want to avoid it and find a style that works with your own natural hair. It's your wedding day and you want to WOW him. My man doesn't give a damn, lucky for him AND me because I think I'd have had a show down with him long ago if he did. lol I change my hair way too much to be restricted, it's just something I like to do. I wear my own which is shoulder length on the sides, and slightly longer in back, but it's still not a uniform length AND it's not "full". I also like more length for more exotic looks when something special is going on. It's all individual preference and nothing wrong either way.

This has been my biggest concern because i dont plan to stay out of the water and love to take pics, so I have to look fly when I come out the water! LOL!

 

Has anyone purchased any bulk braid hair that will curl and can be straightened?

Paulssoulmate, I'm officially stalking you for pictures now! LOL! I had invisibles last year and that was my first thought, but I was told that my hair was too long for them now. How long is your hair? And are you using human hair?
