Chocolate Brides: Hair Question

Now I change my hairstyle quite often and am in the process of transitioning to my natural hair. Before I wore it short, quickweaved, braided, the list goes on and on. I dont plan on relaxing my hair either so thats another big issue. If I have to do the "kitchen" and edges I will, but I would prefer to remain chemical free. Right now Im leaning towards a fab sew in with the hair left out being pressed. I plan to do a trial around March and go from there.

Ok, so here's the deal...you either be diva for the duration before your wedding and absolutely do not get it wet...this is my plan OR you get it wet and work with a style that will look good if you get it wet. Either way, use your stylist that you are comfortable with. So if that means working with someone from home and taking some lessons prior to your trip...then that's what you do. I am not comfortable with anyone around my hair except for my stylist at home...and I have cafe latte hair..haha. That would be a mixed grade with some calling it "good hair" a phrase I totally hate. No one knows I have black in my family, everyone assumes I'm latina or italian or even asian?? to give you an idea of what people perceive when the first see me. I have not found many people who can get my hair right. So I will use my stylist to gi ve me lessons prior to my wedding and then apply them to my wedding day. Go with what you trust. I do not trust anyone in Key West to get it right.

As a certified diva, I have to find a way to make it work! LOL! I plan to get a sew in and use the hair that waves when wet, but can also be straightened. After the wedding I could care less about how it looks!

This is the thing I am MOST concerned about. I am transitioning to natural hair. I haven't had a perm since Jan. and I've been wearing micros every since. I really don't want micros for the wedding but we're doing the TTD session so I was thinking about getting the invisible braids. I don't know about a sew in because I have that NAPPY hair. Aint nothing remotely straight about my hair so Im wondering what a sew in would look like after the TTD session. I'm racking my brain and Im not even getting married til June!

I'm getting a sew in about a two weeks before departing, this way if I need to get any repairs or decide to add layers or color I have time. I've made an appointment with a salon in Mexico but I have to say it wasn't easy. First, finding a salon with a reliable email was difficult enough, but to then find a salon that had pictures just about wore me out. But a lot of patience and searching this forum and the web and I found a salon with images of former brides on their site. I contacted the owner who has a salon in Toronto and PV and he assured me both he and his makeup artist have experience with *chocolate brides*. This has been my biggest worry but with a weave and a trial two days prior, if they mess it up I can always wash it and figure something out. And...No, I will not be getting my hair wet prior to the big day, can't take the chance.

I had to laugh when I read this because I said the same thing! I even scheduled our excursion for after the wedding because of this. My FI thinks I'm being silly but I told him he doesn't understand how hard it is, especially with me being natural. I told him I can't take ANY chances!

Yeah we'll get out and do stuff but hopefully nothing that will cause me to sweat out my perm, prior to the wedding!!!

I love this thread. I've just completed the transition from permed to natural. Literally just completed the transition...most days I have no idea what to do with my hair, but luckily my big day is far off. I'm not even sure if I'll still be natural then, or if I'll do a sew in etc. But it's good to see that I'm not alone with the hair worries.

Hopefully I can find the right hair so that when it gets wet it waves but can also be straightened. But I dont plan to get it wet until after the ceremony since I dont wear a relaxer.

 

Any hair suggestions ladies?

divadivine, I have to agree with luckygirl. I think you may just have to get the hair that

waves up when it gets wet but prior to the wedding just do NOT get it wet. That's what I'm going to be doing. It may restrict you the first few days your in Jamaica but I think its worth it for you to have your hair the way you want it on your day.

 

You sound like me...not waiting to have braids on the wedding day so I suggest the sew in. I see your in Indiana, which isnt far from me. What city do you live in? I've been trying to find someone who does a GREAT sew in here and for the life of me, I cant!
