Recommended Posts

I have been to the Grand Sunset in past, its an amazing beautiful resort... but now that has all changed for us. My FI and I had everything planned for Jan 11, 2011. We have since changed resorts. Good Luck to everyone!

We were at the Grand Rivieria Princess last October for our friends wedding. love it so much that we booked it for our wedding in June 2011. However, now with everything that has transpired at the resort we have chosen to cancel our wedding. Not sure where we are going to rebook. good luck to all you brides heading down there in the next few weeks. im sure the WC will do everything she can to make it a beautiful day for you.

H i everybody!

I have been wedding coordinator for many years in the Los Cabos Area. It is shame to me to read how afraid you are about my country and all the recently things have happened. There are things that we cannot take control of and in situations of emergency like this everybody tries to do the best we can in order to help our guests coming to our destinations.

Talking about cancellations so soon could be not good as we don´t know how things will be in some days, weeks. But of course, people involved in the touristic ambience can understand how afraid you could be and you prefer to feel secure and with no stress while you are planning the most important day of your lives.

Maybe you don´t have to forget about the idea of having a destination wedding in Mexico. Fortunately my country has lots of beautiful secured venues and Los Cabos is one of it. We live in paradise and all those horrible things you have heard does not happen here. I am very proud of living in this amazing part of Mexico and believe me, all the Cabo community do our best to make our tourist feel wonderful here when they are coming to our paradise. Actually we have a community called "Cabo Angel" which has been organized by regular citizens who are involved with the tourism and we are more than happy to take care of you.

Kindly regards,

Leoán Gómez

Have already made arrangements to marry at GSP in April 2011 and now with everything going on, certainly a bit concerned.  For those who have cancelled your wedding, did you get your deposit back?  And how has this affected deposits for your guests?  I guess that depends on the travel agency used...

Also, still have yet to hear back from the new wedding coordinator but get that I am sure they are all overwhelmed right now...I understand that GSP is now closed down as well...has anyone heard if they are being sued?  And, do we think that they will still be in business??  I know that I am working myself up but have a number of guests as well that are apprehensive about going to GSP

We are still waiting to hear back from our TA as to if we will be getting back the deposit from the resort. She said that sunwing is going to refund our deposits as well. We are also getting back the deposit from the photographer we hired. So fortunetly we think we will be getting all of our money back, and none of our invited guests had yet put down their deposits. Still not sure if we are going to switch to another resort in Mexico at this time.

Where did you hear that GSP is closed down?  The Nov 21st news article says 450 people were moved from GRP (not GSP), which sounds to be about one-half of the Riviera side, so in total I thought that meant about 1/4 of the overall resort is closed.

I called GSP two days ago and they were insisting that their full resort is open, and that only a portion of the GRP is closed.  But then again its hard to trust what is said on that side.  However I would like to know the source of the rumours that half or even all of the combined resort is closed?

I am just wondering if everybody elses travel agents are being very helpful in this Situation? Mine isn't first of all she told me that the resorts are 45 minutes away because i was worried and then she told me also not to worry because there is no swamp on the Sunset side. We were thinking of changing resorts because i was a bit worried about the situation  are wedding is Jan 6th and she told us that pretty much now we are not going to find a resort that well marry us and my guests well have to pay a change fee if we stay at another resort
