Well, count me in! I've been following this thread for a few days and thinking about trying the DC. I'm a sucker for coupons, so I just bit the bullet and bought one.

Wish me luck! I hope it's comfortable. If I get the hang of it and it doesn't gross me out too much I'll be really happy as I don't like all the waste that's created every month in our house. I use the cardboard applicators, but I change them frequently (paranoia), so I know that it's not good for my body and it creates tons of waste, to say nothing of the savings I'll enjoy!

I too got a coupon code for anyone who wants to use it on their first puchase: CIW822.

As someone getting it shipped to Canada, Morgan's code paid for my shipping, so that was nice :)smile159.gif

I needed a video or diagram to get my head around how it works!

The Instead website has a video of how it works they even show you how to insert it and how it works with you all your body parts...check out the website for the video.

Diva Cup Day 3- so far, so good. It takes some getting used to to put in & take out, but I don't notice it at all once it's in.

I feel much more comfortable about it than I did the instead cup. My issue was the instead cup was that it tilted & spilled. This thing is much longer & wouldn't be able to tilt.

It's really not gross to empty. I'll be happy to get rid of my small trash can with a lid that I use for tampons. And clean out the area under the sink where I kept all my feminine supplies. Too bad I recently bought a couple packs.

Donate those closed boxes of tampons to a women's shelter!

  • 5 weeks later...

so i'm in the middle of period #2 with the diva cup. The first month i noticed that i had no cramps. i thought it was just a good month. but, i told a friend & she said that is common. so month 2 & I'm passed my heavy days & still no cramps. my stomach would also get really upset during my period before. i am not experiencing that either.

being a scientists, i want to do the control of a month using tampons again to see if the symptoms return. the only thing is, i hate to go back to tampos now. still, i think i'll do it next month.

my friend said that women experience the loss of cramps when they switch to natural products, too. so that would make you think it's something in the tampons/ pads that gives you cramps. kind of scary.

also, with the diva cup my periods feel much lighter. i'm aware of how heavy my flow really is. with tampons it felt so much heavier than it actually is.

i haven't found it gross to use. i did struggle with getting the technique down the first few times. the first time i removed it was bad. i just jerked it out. now i realize what i need to do.

the most helpful thing i figured out is that if i'm having trouble getting it to open up, i should stand up and take a few steps. this usually does the trick. if it still didn't work, usually i just need to pull it down a little. I've gotten the technique down & can remove & reinsert the thing pretty fast.

it's great not having to use the tampon trash can. i have a little metal trash can with a lid. i'm going to get rid of it now. it's just really nice that there is no waste. for environmental reasons & just to not have the waste in the house.

i only remove it in the morning, after work & before bed. i never have to mess with it at work. i don't get that tearing & drying that tampons gave me. i felt much beter at the end of my last period than i did before.

i highly recommend the diva cup. be sure to use the $5 off coupon i posted above so it's $15.
