I'm contemplating getting a Dyson, but don't know which one. The Animal seems like the obvious choice, because I have a dog that sheds (although not an extremely heavy sheeder, but medium amounts) but really I want the most compact and lightest one possible because we have lots of stairs. The more compact and light it is, the greater the chance I will bother taking it out even for small jobs. Right now we have a central vac and so often I just can't be bothered to pull it out because of the hose and everything.

What about vacuuming stairs? I guess there is just a hose attachment like every other vacuum? Does that work amazing too? Our stairs are always disgustingly filled with hair and dirt because they are right at the entrance and we have a split level so you have to go up the stairs as soon as you enter the house, so the stairs get used a lot more than for a regular house with just a basement and 2nd floor.

The Dyson has a handle inside the handle on an accordian hose that pulls out easily to clean the stairs. I'm totally not explaining this well, but if you go on the Dyson website it shows pics. Cleaning the stairs is super easy with the Dyson. Its got a long reach and its easy to setup for stairs, so I actually do them :)

Hey I heard so much about these. Now this is something that I really need since I have a 1yr old male Akita, that sheads all over the place. The worst is in the basement were he loves to lay with my fi the vac I have not is shot to shit and I have to sweep all the hair in the laundy room then sweep that uo( just imagine sometimes its enought to make another dog lol

I have to tell you... it works really well on the stairs because the head is smaller than a regular vac. The extension part is really simple and simple to use... it comes directly from the top of the handle. We have a dog too and she's a shedder too and I read a lot reviews before asking for it and they all were really positive about the DC 25 and dog hair.

Seriously I vacuumed the night before my shower and then vacuumed again the next day with the Dyson and it practically filled the canister! I would say it's a great investment and worth the money!

i have the old yellow dyson - the one before the ball, and not the animal. we have hardwood floors throughout, except in the basement, so when dh bought it, i laughed b/c who needs a heavy duty vacuum for hardwood? he totally gave me an "i told you so" b/c it's fabulous! it sucks up EVERY cat hair. the canister is always filled when i'm done vacuuming - which grosses me out, but then again, i don't vacuum too often. the only complaint i have is that it's NOT light - not terribly heavy, but hard for me to bring back down the stairs. it does have a huge reach, like jenn said, and is good on stairs and my microfiber couches. i love my dyson.
